How to Downgrade your Minecraft client (Windows 7 tutorial)

So.. You accidentally hit "update," instead of "not now," and can't play on your favourite server?

If you have Windows, then have no fear! With this simple, easy-to-follow guide, I'll teach you how to downgrade your Minecraft client, to ANY version of Minecraft that you've played, on your computer!

This, along with my "How to Start a Server" guide, was written whilst helping out a few friends. I've not seen any guides as detailed as mine, and decided to upload them, here, so that others might benefit from them, and so I can refer people to them, when I am asked how to downgrade or start a server. Feel free to share this with anyone in need, but please do not "re-blog," as that creates a lot of spam.

||This does not work on Windows 8, because Windows 8 is slightly more retarded than Windows 7.||

o Click on the Start menu icon
o Click on the search bar, and type %appdata%
o You'll see a file, named "Roaming" - Click on it

o Find the file named ".minecraft," and right-click - Do not open it

o Look through the list, until you find the option "Restore previous versions"

o Select the version you want, then hit "restore"

o Hit "restore," again

If you've followed these directions correctly, you should now have the previous version, of your choice! (Of course, you might have to try a few times, to get the correct version, if you're going further back than the version you just updated from.) If you need any more help, let me know!

Quick Update : 03/13/2013 1:44:37 pm3/13/13

There aren't many detailed blogs, out there, about downgrading, and the 1.5 update is out. (No idea if it affects servers) So - bumping for those who don't yet know how to downgrade.

I use magiclaucher to downgrade my minecraft, i think its much easier. Its useful information anyways:-)
Magic Launcher just doesn't work, for some people. Couldn't get it to work on my desktop, neither could a few friends or my brother. Haven't tried it, since I got my laptop, as it's really the same amount of work, if you think about it. Though I suppose this is the harder way of doing it - The easiest way is to just save a couple copies of the .jar, with all the mods you want for each version, and replace them when you want to go back/forward in Minecraftia time.

yeah, your rright on that. Magiclaucher doesnt work for all, but i does for me(and i happy wappy about that ^.^) nearly all of my friends couldnt get it to work, and i showed them this tutorial, but could you maybe make a tutorial on how to up/downgrade a homehosted minecraft server? i know many people who ask me that all the time, and as i don't the answer, maybe you do? :-)
Ehh, I suppose I could put that into my "how to start a server" tutorial.. But it's really not hard. All you have to do is download the new server .jar, either from minecraft.net or if you use bukkit, from dl.bukkit.org, and then replace the old one.

OI what program do you use to monitor your system?
Saw your PM - I'll post it here, in case there are any others wondering. It's the CPU meter, from AddGadgets.com. There are many others, that I've started using, as well, though only every once in a while. The CPU meter is most used, so I keep it running, along with the digital clock (from the website. It has a few neat features) and the default weather gadget.
You mean the little box, in the bottom left corner? It's a windows gadget - Doesn't come as a default, you have to download it separately. Want the link to the site? They've a load of other useful gadgets, there, too.

Also, I just HAD to Favorite and Diamond, this should be on the front page. Just saying.
Haha.. Thank you!

If there's any kind of tutorial you need, let me know.. I can't really think of anything, at the moment.

Oh, and to add, I just read the "About SilverKytten" part. It was a wonderfully written story. (I know it's real =P)

Well, I didn't really need this one to be exact =P

I'm pretty nerdy to be honest. I just thought this was well written and planned out.

So again, good job!! =)

And if you're new to PMC or the Forums, just ask ;)
Thank you, doubly. :)

I'm not exactly new.. I've been here since March.. I've just recently been quite active. ;)

Oh, then welcome back! Since you've been gone, PMC's removed the "Blocks" Section, and made a new "LiveTV" Section, it's quite great!! =)
:P I know, I've seen.
