Hey guys,
Today I'm going to give you some steps on how to get your server popular, or more popular than it already is!

Online:
Be online as much as possible! Weather it be via the website, or being active ingame! This will give your Minecraft server a nice little community, where withought it everyone would be swearing the whole time and disobeying your rules - people always get excited meeting server owners, especially on servers with 100+ people and that's where you should be aiming!

Donations:
Add perks/ranks to your server for people who donate! This will give people a reason to donate, don't add too many though or that will mean some people are too OP, and you'll know you can never get as good as them because you don't have enough money to donate - keep a fair balance! Also it gives people a certain supeririorty, so watch out for donator's trying to break the rules!

Staff:
You need good staff! This is one of the most important factors! Don't just hire any random guy from PMC, give them a full interview, ask for previous servers worked for, ask the Owners of that server if they actually worked for them and what they thought about him, don't let them become a Full-Staff member after a short period of time! You need a staff member to be on ATLEAST once per 12 hours for atleast 4 hours during that period! IF that! You will need staff to welcome players, take care of rule-breakers (Don't worry about the small periods of time your staff won't be online, there are many plugins to take care of rule-breakers!).

Spawn/Buildings:
Make sure you have PROFESSIONAL buildings, not some buildings you just spent 1 or 2 days making! If you have the money, hire a proffesional build team - most of them make good quality work in a good amount of time, and some people even do it for a small price! If you don't have the money, or are feeling lazy, you can just type in 'Spawn' on the PMC searchbar and it'll come up with 100's of spawns to use (don't forget to give them
credit!)!

Preparation:
Prepare everything BEFORE you open the server, you don't want to be pestered on your forums saying 'oh Mob Arena is broken!' 'when will PvP be up?' etc. This is better for you and your community!

Graphics and Website:
One of the first things I look for in a server are
A) their spawn
B) their website
Your website is one of the most important places! It's where most of you're new people joining the community will come from, where people can talk on the forums, where people donate and much more! Make a quality website with an original design! Hire a proffesional Web Designer if needed!
Now for the Graphics: I can't put it much simpler than this; GET A GOOD BANNER! Make it original, and include all the good information about your server, weather it be that it contains a subsantial amount of RAM, 24/7, Factions or many other factors, note it down!

Thanks for reading and if you enjoyed/think the information above is helpful, please:

I agree with some of these but not all; you can do a lot of these but if you have an unfriendly owner then players will leave. A lot of people will put a lot of time/money into a spawn and into making things look spiffy, but a professional looking banner is not going to establish a real connection with people. Desperate owners may start spending money on advertising and professional build teams only to have their efforts not rewarded because people find the social atmosphere dull or unfriendly.

The balance should be between cost and social relatedness; if an owner spends too much $ but players are isolated or hostile, a friendly community might have difficulty taking root because people do not get invested; similarly if there is a lot of friendliness but nothing to do, things can get boring. But it doesn't mean an owner has to spend a lot of $; ban those who are toxic/rude/unfriendly early, then work with the strengths of the positive members of your community to help build a spawn, create banners, etc.

It can all come together in time, built as a community; it doesn't have to all be done at launch or perfect from the beginning. But some things should be ready - the values, the rules, the stability of ranks and fairness on the part of owners. A good website should be up early.

I find that some disgrunteld server owners will come to my community and put down our humble spawn or something, but these are not the kind of patient and dedicated players I'm looking for anyway. Good players can appreciate the better buildings emerging over time and feel a sense of comraderie contributing to them. They also reflect player needs and wants at different times in the server's development and it's hard (and on a Survival server it can be somewhat pretentious) for staff to anticipate this too much ahead of time.

Why does it need to take more than two days? What if you want a simple, non-confusing spawn that isn't insanely huge and hard to get out of? That's what I do and my server is relatively popular. And some people want their own work.

Nope I use Beastnode (AKA Multicraft) and I had flans then I deleted the JAR that the flans was on and I tried to get back on CraftBukkit but it didn't work. Sent now like 4 tickets for help from the people but 00000 replies.
