Hello everyone! Today I have decided to make a short tutorial on how to make your Minecraft game client nearly lag free! I will make this as simple and short as possible, whilst retaining quality instruction and advice or tips! So, here we go:
Step #1: Run Minecraft. It is recommended that you start a new game, so force update your client or delete the .minecraft folder which you can find by searching %appdata% in the "Start" menu (Windows 7) or in "Run" (Windows xp). Log in, and when you get to your minecraft main menu, do step 2!
Step #2: Click on Settings, then on Video settings. When you are there, the first thing you should do is adjust your Render Distance. The render distance is the amount of blocks your Steve can see in any given direction. Since your processor and video card have to work hard to render all of the pixels on the blocks, and register all the gravitational properties, and lighting, the higher the render distance, the less amount of FPS, or Frames Per Second you will get.
Right now there are only FOUR variation in distance: Tiny, Short, Normal, FAR (Only for windows 64 bit, or Mac's). If you have a shitty laptop, or a crap desktop and you play most games on lowest settings, then I would recommend playing on Tiny or Short rendering distance. If you have a gaming computer, you should probably not be reading this, and you will have no problems whatsoever with lag or any of that, but if you are lagging, it is your video card that is the problem. IMPORTANT: You should fiddle around with the Rendering Distance to find a distance best suited for your computer.
Step #3: After doing step #2, you should look at another setting called Graphics. This is by default set to Fancy, but if you are lagging, set it to fast and it should **DOUBLE or **TRIPLE your FPS!
Step #4: Look at a setting called Performance. This is a real game changer. Performance has three different tiers, and I will list them here: Max FPS, Power Saver, Balanced. By default, this setting is set at Balanced, but I would recommend setting it to Max FPS, because it doesn't limit your fps and high it goes, but if you are using a laptop, it will really sap the power out of it in less than an hour of gameplay. Again, you can fiddle around with this setting if you want.
Step #5: If you are looking to further increase your fps, turn clouds OFF, and turn your GUI scale to SMALL. This will boost your fps. not by much, but if your running minecraft on a lame computer, any fps you can get is important and NEEDED.
DONE! I hope this helped some people out there struggling with bad FPS and horrible, unpleasant, and utterly horrifying gameplay
OPTIFINE: Optifine is one of the BEST mods out there, and just having it will increase your fps by 20 - 40! I recommend getting it, and if you think you can't install mods, well, its THE SIMPLEST MOD TO INSTALL EVER, PERIOD. Look it up on youtube, or find a tutorial on the forums, but hopefully you will get this mod, because it REALLY, REALLY, HELPS! Link for newest version: (Ad link removed)
Another great feature of optifine is that if you use it, you can run HD texture packs without MCPatcher. Gotta love it!
NOTE: If you would like me to make a tutorial on how to configure Optifine so it will give you the best FPS, just diamond this post, favorite, and don't forget to subscribe!
