(Please note: For the sake of this guide, i will be presuming that the reader will be playing in normal, easy or hard mode!)

How to survive you first SSP day/night!

Firstly, Gather up some wood. If you have bonus chest on you may have an axe but if not just punch the trees!

Secondly, Build a shelter. This can be as simple as inhabiting a small cave, digging a hole in a hill, or building a small wood/dirt house.

For Step 3, Fill your shelter with necessities. A couple of furnaces, crafting table, maybe a chest, a door at the entrance and maybe a bed will be enough.

Now craft yourself some tools. Wooden tools are ok if you have nothing else. Stone tools are very good for your first night. If you get Iron tools, be very proud of yourself. The most important tools are pickaxes and swords, maybe a hoe if you have seeds or even an axe if you want!

Step 4 is to gather up some food. Apples will drop from cut down trees but are not very filling. Killing animals that drop meat like cows, pigs and chickens and then cooking their meat is a good thing to do. Farms are great, but I am doubtful that they will grow before night. Steak (Cooked beef) is the best food to get early in-game. Things like cake and pumpkin pie are a lot more complex and should be left til later. If you find a village, steal their crops!

Then get yourself some torches. If you are near a village take theirs. If you had the bonus chest therewere some next to it so use them. If not, either mine coal ore with a pickaxe (wooden will do) or smelt wood blocks (NOT planks) in a furnace to get charcoal. Both coal and charcoal can be combined with a stick to produce 4 torches. Place these inside and maybe outside your shelter to prevent hostile mobs spawning while you sleep/wait out the night.

Now sleep in your bed by right clicking or prepare to wait out the night.
