Arkellian Colony Founded Overseas - Imperial Governor "Delighted"
In a recent survey of Arkellian military reports, the Governor of Mizu Province was happy to report to the Empress that the Empire's first overseas outpost colony has officially been founded! According to the details by the local press, the colony - named "Raita" - is a joint effort between the ships of the Sorian navy and the Saburians. Sorian Admiral Evan Noland has stated that "the colony, while in it's very early stages at this point, is located on top of a very rich underground oil patch and we plan to utilize it for future endeavors."
The outpost of Raita is on a small island just off the mainland coast of a nation known as Synastra. As far as this reporter knows, the Synastrans have been friendly about the effort, even sending a team of eleven delegates to assist in setting up fortifications around the colony.
Construction teams from Sabure have rapidly constructed a shipyard large enough to serve most classes of naval vessels, with a large emphasis towards freight. The Province of Kasai is already commissioning several of its Steamhauler vessels to bring supplies and drilling equipment to tap into the oil reserves.
With such a large military presence, citizens are concerned that this may incite hostilities with the nation of Synastra. Admiral Noland assures us that he has spoken to the diplomatic ambassadors from Synastra, and that "They understand that the majority of the colony effort is a resource gathering operation, and there are no plans for invasion whatsoever."
Aside from the military teams, many families who have personnel stationed in Raita are no doubt concerned for their well being. Rest assured, soon a postal service, as well as a long range communications center, are in plans for construction, along with colonist housing and refinery facilities. The Empress has graciously signed a document granting the immediate relatives and children of the colony workers free transit to the colony should they wish to move there.
In addition, there are rumors that the Royal family may choose to visit Raita soon to oversee the operation and formally introduce themselves to the Synastran delegation. Could this be the beginning of our first permanent overseas alliance? That remains to be seen!
