Is PlanetMineCraft Educational?

Have any of you guys wondered whether or not PMC is educational? I for one have and I thought I would share with you what I have learned.

1: Skins.

Skins are a very deep and very hard to do properly, but if you do them properly there amazing!!! But what do you actually get out of since Io m not a Skinner I asked a few People who are Skinners on their thoughts.

(eliya194): Uhh... not really

(HatsyaSouji): yeah, as it'll be your tiny but starting way of texturing 3D assets for games

So as you can see some people believe this to be true and some noto ¦(Monkeyy said that it wasno t educational but the way she said ito ¦..I decided not to post it) Skinning can be educational in different ways

1: Art.

A lot of people like to draw their Skins out before they create them therefore they could be counted as Art.

2: Creative thinking

Yes I count thinking as educational, it helps expands the Brain helping you to create more ideas.

Skinning can open up College ideas for you later on in life such as Graphic Designer and stuff like that. Texture Packs are roughly the same as Skins, so Io m not really going to go into detail on them.

(Mgreat): Well it's artistic, but it's kind of in the gray area

(DatMuffinMan): If done correctly texture packs are a great practice for learning pixel art. But, this kind of art isn't used much in today's world, so it's more of a fun hobby than an educational pursuit.

2: Blogging

Blogging is my favorite (obviously) and it is probably the most useful of all the different PMC topics, Io m not saying that cause I like to write I say it cause it gives you the most opportunities that lead to different lifestyles and opportunities later on in life.

(Candlebor): Depends on the blog. If it's a "Justice blogger" (Blogging about how trolls are mean, don't stereotype, etc.) It's not educational, and it just boosts their ego. If it's a tutorial or an actual respectable blog, perhaps.

(Jetra): In some respects yes because most blogs are full of useful information, but only about minecraft in which calling it educational is a bit of a stretch.

Writing is more than just a fun hobby. Ito s an opportunity that can help you later on in life. Here are a o coupleo different opportunities for you later on in life.

Journalist: Writing down what you hear and making sure you do it accurately. This is very difficult because people want to hear whato s good in life not whato s bad.

Newscaster: Saying stuff in a way to please the Public (Community) Even if ito s a negative comment, News people have figured out how to do this and it drives me crazy >:| Yes Newscaster is a o writingo career opportunity because it teaches you how to take notes and stuff like that.

These two o Careero opportunities are pretty similar but are different in their own ways.

3 Servers:

Servers are a thing some people look down on, in the PMC community, (probably cause everyone wants to be staff and famous) but ito s not that bad at all, and probably the most useful if you want to go into the Programming career. This topic I probably have the least amount of experience. It can help teach you how to manage time, Money and stuff in your personal life. You might be wondering how on earth does it help with that. But it does! You have devote so much time to your server to make sure ito s running properly but then you need to make sure you time for your School work and Job and stuff like that. Now Io ll tell you what Career opportunities it can help you with later on in life.

Website Designer: Yes this is a Job and one that is pretty popular at that.

Software Engineer: Once people start coding ito s hard to get them to stop learning so this is a great on for those who like to Code.

(lookinthesky): i think a little bit it teaches how to maintain something and keep it alive so yes I do.

(InfernoGamer): yeah, if you teach someone.

4 Building:

This is actually one that is runs very close to Skins and Textures the only thing that is really different from Career opportunities (and this could be qualified under the Skins and Textures)

Architect: For those of you who like to draw this could be a great career opportunity for you.

(VoV): not really educational, but merely a tool for education

(Miss_Jillian): can be if one does it enough and takes the time to learn from outside sources.

5 Moderating:

This is a great position on PMC if these amazing guys wereno t here then PMC wouldno t be what it is today. Since Io m not a Moderator (Obviously) I am going to leave it up to a real Moderator for this one so I introduce

Supernova666

(Supernova66): I do think moderating is educational, regardless of moderator rank.

The educational part about it is having to learn how to deal with people who do not want to listen, who refuse to cooperate and are down right ignorant. Quite often they will rant and rage, as long as we stay calm we have already "won". Ranting doesn't make you look any better, it does quite of the opposite, it makes you look immature and gives all the mods a good laugh. It takes a small amount of skill to word messages correctly to give the rule breaker no room to twist words and try to get around what you are trying to say.

The "Bill Lawyer's" or Internet lawyers are always fun to deal with. These are people who claim legal action will be taken against us and/or PMC. It is a steep learning curve with them, all the threats are hollow threats, but we have to take them seriously(ish) and put the person in their place as we enforce the rules that they agreed to follow when signing up by clicking the "I agree to the Terms of Use". It is their fault if they have not read the rules.

This is what he says can help with later Career opportunities.

Working with children, or people with an unstable temperament. That covers a wide array of careers, however it isn't just moderating that will prepare you for the workplace, many other experiences will do.

Thanks so much Supernova666.

PMC in general personally I think that PMC is educational depending on the way you use it.

This is what some others said about PMC in general.

(xAudaa): What makes the community so great is that there are people who teach others how to improve, or how to do something new. That could be seen as educational.

(Ludicrous): oh, well PMC may not that be educational, but education isn't the only thing in the world. What PMC has, is Creativity... So many creative things on PMC!

As we review our results ito s safe to say that PMC is Educational in General.

And you forgot mods.
Mods are educational if you open them up and learn some code inside em.

Minecraft servers are only educational by getting tips from on there.
Other than that

If you design your server properly, the only thing you'll have to worry about is updating it when Minecraft updates.

If you never change your server up it may become boring. I'm a server owner myself and I'm always using the creative part of my mind on new games to add, updating the website. making new Spawns. I think running a server can be very education if you do it right.

The educational part is setting it up and managing it. What I was trying to get at with that slight exaggeration was that you don't have to devote a lot of time to manage your server if you design it right. Thinking up new ideas doesn't take up nearly as much time as trying to manage a poorly-constructed server.

I own a popular mc server but what your saying is not all true. People always want new things on a server. People will eventually get sick of the new things and want newer things. Thats why I'm constantly improving my server and I keep mysellf busy on it. If im not busy on my server then I know somethings wrong. So for me at least a lot more work goes into my server then just updating the jar file. Thanks for reading :P
