This is a story that we were able to right and I was baby sitting and these kids watched A Series of Unfortunate Events. Please Diamond 'cause I worked hard on it. It may be a little cheesy at times but bear with me :). Here goes.
Hello, my name is officer Crawlings, and I am here to tell you about the story of James, who walked straight into my heart and came out of this world just as fast. It all started when I met him in an ice cream parlor, my favorite, on October 21st, 1957 wait noo ¦ before that. It began when he was born, on October 13th 1950, seven years before that, James was born. He was born perfectly except he had a lack of oxygen, which he died in a matter of seconds. The doctor was new, but he would not let James die. He did all he could, and James had survived. Luckily, James had cheated death. I am a highly religious man, and I believe there is a thing named Death and he was after James.
Seven years late James had just turned seven, Death discovered where James was. Jameso father, Martin, was 53 and just beginning to lose his mind. Martin was cooking lunch and had to go to the bathroom. He had left the oven unattended. The house was lit in a matter of seconds and everyone diedo ¦ except for James. He was lazily swimming in the pond nearby looking at all the Koi. Then he saw the smoke. He rushed to the house, but it was reduced to a pile of ashes. His mother, father, and his sister died. How would you feel if your family diedo ¦ for James he was heart-broken, sad, and alone. There was nowhere to go. A thought occurred to him, o I wonder how Aunt Patty would feelo ¦ Aunt Patty! James thought. In the sunset James set off for their home a couple of miles down the road.
Fortunately, James was athletic and he jogged down to his Aunt and Uncleo s hose in about half an hour. When he found them, they had already heard the news. The graciously accepted him with warm hugs and tears. James had nearly lived with his Aunt for almost a week, until Death found him once again. The water heater was malfunctioning for about 2 days. Then it burst, catching the house on fire, and killing everyoneo ¦ except James. Where was James you ask? He was visiting his friend. It was there when he heard the news. Once again James was heart-broken, frightened, and alone. This time police officers were involved. They were at the Aunto s house to find out what happened. At first they did not know what to do with poor, lonely James, and then they assigned me to take him to an orphanage.
o Nice weather today, eh son?o I commented.
o Ito s a bit smoky for me, if you ask me sir, but thank you anyways.o James replied. I could not blame the kid for being snarky; I had asked the wrong question. I felt bad for the kid so I took him to the ice cream parlor. Plus, it was close to the orphanage.
The waiter approached us when we sat down, o What can I get for you sir?o he asked.
o Nothing for me but ao ¦o I looked to James.
o Chocolate, please?o James asked.
o A chocolate triple scoop for James, please?o I told the waiter. James looked up and his eyes shone with gratitude. o I wrapped him up in a hug and told him, o Everything is going to be all righto ¦o What can I say I am a softy. One look at James and I knew I was a goner, same with my wife. Over the next few minutes James told me his story. Turns out he wants to be a police officer too. He is a sweet kid once you know him. He could have been my son. Honestly I was depressed when I had to take him to the orphanage.
It was no surprise when ten days later, the orphanage had an electrical malfunction and the orphanage burst into flames. James was at the ice cream parlor (his new favorite) when I found him to tell him the news. James was crestfallen; he had lost his mentors and all his best friends. He loved them there were his family. Alone again James sobbed, o Thereo s something wrong with me everyone I love they dieo ¦ ando ¦o
o James,o I cut him off, o There is nothing wrong with you. Youo re just having horrible luck.o Or being chased by death I thought, but I did not want to scare the kid. o Youo re just unlucky thato s allo ¦o I repeated. James then looked up and his eyes shone with sadness and gratitude. The I blurted, o You can stay with me and my wifeo ¦o My wife and I had been trying to have a child for so long we had given up hope. Until I found James, I was lonely with my wife.
o Sure,o James said, o Thank you very much.o He actually smiled. That smile was like a blessing that made you want to laugh and cry all at the same time.
James stayed at our house for a week and a half. In that short amount of time we had fell in love with James. James had fallen for us. I guess death and love was on James mind because we got into a horrible argument, our last. o James I know this is a little soon buto ¦o I started.
o You want me to leave?o James said in Desperation?
o No, quite the opposite in fact!o I said cheerfully, o Mrs. Crawlings and I want to adopt you!o
o I dono t want to do this to you!o James cried. James then burst through the door. We were left there standing with our mouths agape.
o He doesno t love uso ¦o My wife stated.
o He loves us so much he doesno t want to die,o I murmered. I knew then that we must find James and finally tell him we love himo ¦
A month later, with our desperate attempts to find James, we got a call. They had found James. He was in the back lot of the ice cream parlor. When we saw him, we just stared numbly. He was blue-tinged, with cuts and bruises, and scrawny limbs. James was dead.
o Cold,o James thought, o Blacko Somewhere he heard his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Crawling, sobbing. o Dono t cry,o James thought, o Ito s all going to be over soon.o Then out of the blackness there was a cackle of laughter. o Deatho James thought. James knew he understood everything, he understood everything. The information was flowing. He had cheated Death. Then he awoke and saw the wood encasing. o A coffin,o James thought, o Io m being buriedo ¦o Then he saw the light, it enveloped him with warmth. He was with the angels now.
Two years later, we got a call. My wife answered and listened and turned ghastly pale, o No!o she cried and sobbed. I grabbed the phone.
o Who is this? You have no right to make my wife cry after what sheo s been through!o I exclaimed. We have so many people making us feel horrible what happened to James.
o Mr. Crawlings. I know youo re upset, can you t least hear me out? Someone on the line said with a odd tone, like a funereal tone. o Sir, we analyzed the body of James and his COD, or cause of death was actually suffocation. He was still alive in the Coffin.o
o Theno ¦o I stuttered, o I killed my own son?o
