intro

welcome to week 2 of our spooky mod reviews with a mod i actually have quite a bit of play time with! vampires are admittedly in my top 5 for my favourite classic horror creatures along with werewolves, ghosts, demons, and lab created creatures [​like frankenstein's monster]. i do also adore evil scientists/doctors/nurses but i don't think they count considering they are just people also my reasoning for liking them is a lot less pure. nonetheless, vampires! lets get into this actual mod.

what is vampirism?

vampirism is a mod that allows you to, you guessed it, be a vampire. although it of course adds more then just that. this mod adds an entire biome as well as a way to level up your vampirism. it even adds a way for you to become a vampire hunter instead if that tickles your fancy. it is a pretty expansive mod that allows for you to explore every nook and cranny of the vampire experience although installing guide api as well is encouraged, since this mod can be confusing without a guide book. i originally played it without guide api and i got very confused, i'm not including this as a dislike though since there is a in game guide as long as you install guide api.

you can be a vampire

enough said. you can be a vampire and turn into a bat and even mind control people if you get your level high enough. that's cool.

the leveling system

vampirism has a leveling system for being a vampire, as well as being a hunter a believe, i haven't fully explored the hunter path. nonetheless i do really enjoy this system. it slowly gives you powers as you level up while also taking away other things so it still stays somewhat balanced. also doing this prevents you getting thrown into the deep end right away which is hugely beneficial. the rituals required for leveling up aren't too complicated as long as you have a guide and they also add to the atmosphere of the whole thing.

dislikes

the difficulty to de-vampire

this may seem like a moot point considering in the lore, vampires generally can't stop being vampires, but this is a video game where you can sometimes slip and become a vampire on accident. which is exactly what happened to me my first time playing a mod pack with this mod. me and the person i was playing with spawned in a vampire forest and i decided to punch a vampire cow. bad idea considering they fight back and the bastard bit me. which inevitably turned me into a vampire and considering i had no clue how to suck blood caused some issues for a while. thankfully i eventually figured it out but i would of appreciated if there was an easier way to de vampire. besides either finding a altar of cleansing or inject yourself with garlic in later versions i believe. either way it can be annoying to say the least especially considering how easy it can be to become a vampire.

final thoughts

vampirism is a great mod for all your possible twilight related fantasies, or your interview with a vampire fantasies, or your what we do in the shadows fantasies, or your- you get it. i don't know if it's the best vampire mod on the market, we'll be talking about a different mod with vampires later this month, but it's still a great one. especially if you just want vampires and hunters without anything else. i've even heard the mod if great with multiplayer servers since it allows for factions to form, but of course i haven't tested this. nonetheless it's a great mod that i'd recommend, especially this month.
