Making A Project: The Experience

About 2 months ago, I decided I was going to challenge myself to build something massive in my Minecraft world. I started out searching for an ideal place to start. After searching for what seemed like hours, I realized that finding that perfect spot is hard and takes time. And yes, if your wondering, this about my experience about making projects rather than talking about them.

Selecting the Spot

I finally settled on a slightly hilly area with a somewhat flat area to the east. It was near a swamp and was connected to a body of water. I chose the area because I knew that I wanted a village with a port. I also knew that I wanted a castle near it. That is why I selected the land east of my village.

Terraforming

I was able to build my village fine without much terraforming. When it came to the castle, however, I was forced to use MC-edit to flatten the area around the castle. I proceeded to download MC-edit and learned it is not very user friendly. After fooling around in it for half an hour or so, I decided it was time to watch some You Tube videos for help. After watching about an hour worth of videos, I learned what I needed. I started MC-edit up and flattened it out. It took me an hour and a half to do something that should have taking a few minutes. At that moment, I realized that I was a noob at making a project.

Building

When it came time for the actual building, I found it necessary to use different blocks to make the appearance of another block. For instance, I learned how to make stairs and wool into windmill blades thanks to some research into the topic. I also learned that by putting two stairs and half step together, I could create the appearance of a two block wide road.

Research

It also took me allot of research. I have to credit some inspiration and technique from Sipps and his let's build a castle and town series. I also had to ask around my friends for ideas and even to help build some stuff. (think you Cameron for the chapel) I found myself begging to take notes on styles I see. Another thing that I found important was the texture pack. Different packs can set different moods and feelings.

.......To be continued with the next release of my project with new thoughts and views on how to make a project.
