Hey everyone! I was on chat a while ago and people were asking what type of servers people like. Let me ask you this first, how do you like your steak? If you posted your answer in the comments there would be a few million different answers. So, what does that have to do with making a server that people like? Have a nice well rounded server. What about your name? That's important!
Craft craft craft MCplaycraft craft craft craft blah craft realms land land craft craft craft CRAFT! Well get to that later, plugins? That's also very important and ties in with being well rounded.

*Logs on, is amazed at his/her first looks of the server*: A NICE SPAWN! Make it custom, take time to build it; just don't do what's listed right here. V

Hmm, you just created a not-so-good spawn with a few simple key strokes. Easy peasy right, try making your server unique with it's looks. A good first impression will get people to stay longer, that means using different blocks, have it be interactive and so on.

A nice meaty piece of steak...that's rounded: Everyone enjoys different Gamemodes, Creative, Survival, Adventure, Minigames and so-on. So, different worlds with multiple game modes are good! On my server I have 10 different worlds, it slow downs the startup and shutdown but it's worth it! Reason being: People choose to stay in a certain world with a certain game mode! I have Plots, Adventure, Survival, Parkour, Games and spawn and blah blah blah. Each person enjoys each world differently. So that being said, More game modes, more people!

CraftCraftCraft: That server name is used way to much. It's already seen enough when you log onto minecraft, why would people want to see it more? Land, Realms, World and so on are not nearly as abused. A good look when people enter in your server's IP is essential! Maybe add some color? &71-7, A-F doesn't work. So, you'll need this symbol; § ; This symbol can be created by pressing ALT 2,1. So, hold down ALT then press 2, then, while still holding down ALT, release 2 and press 1. (Note: Numbers must be entered on the Number PAD) So,, § takes the place of &. §1This is an §4example message. For a plugin that makes this process 100X easier, look down below.

PluginPlay: Haha, see what I did there? ;) Plugins, not many servers will have the exact same plugins. Some of mine that I use are:
PPMOTD: Allows you to change your servers message so each player feels more welcome. 
WorldEdit: You've heard of this.
WorldGuard: You've heard of this too. ..I hope.
Timber: Fully configurable, when a player chops down a tree with an axe, all blocks above it are broken.
Essentials: It's Essential! Adds a bunch of commands that seem like it's just a part of Bukkit.
PermissionsEX: Add permissions to each rank that you can create!

See what I mean? These plugins make your server more unique, even just the ranks you create with PEX make your server VERY unique!
