You are the pilot of a trade ship on its way to a planet to drop off supplies. Everything is going smoothly until your scanners show a solar flare heading straight for you! It hits the ship and disables all but one of your main engines but apart from that your OK. After drifting through space for a few hours you get a report on your inter-ship com that a gang of pirates are at large in the area.
Soon the pirates discover you destroy your communications array and in an attempt to disable your ships steering rockets they end up blasting you towards a just terraformed planet. With most of your steering gone you have 2 choices:
1. Try and land your ship on the planet but have your engines destroyed so there is no hope of returning to space.
2. Fire your remaining rocket to get out of the planets gravitational pull but be left in space hoping that someone comes to your rescue before its the pirates capture your ship.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO!
If you think you have another way of getting out of this situation please tell me or just tell me the choice you picked

I'd present a different question, either you land on the planet and won't be visible -and your radio has been taken out- or you stay visible in space and hope the borderlands patrol will bail you out if they see you -which they most likely will-
And if you choose to land it's unlikely you can get back in space because of gravitanional pull and damaged after burners.
The choice is still the same, but this one has no work around i guess, you either land and survive on the planet or you stay in space and hope for the best. Just as in the proposed case.
