Hello people.
Many of you have been wondering, (including myself) what is better for skinning. Paint.net or McSkin3D.
Before I begin my comparison, I would like to say that there's no better or worse alternative.
McSkin3D offers a wide range of tools for skinning. That includes: transparent colours, HSV etc. It focuses and specialises on skins. It even has a preview of the skin and has labels that tell you what part of the skin you're working on. It also has various other powerful skinning tools that assist you to make a skin.
Whereas Paint.net has a more versatile approach to images and pictures. For instance, McSkin3D does not have the ability to make a photo like the one I have as my avatar. The problem with paint.net is that it was not made for skinning in particular and therefore lacks some important features that McSkin3D offers. These include: the preview of your skin and labels for your parts. Although you still can make labels on paint.net like Leostereo has, it takes extra time and effort. The good thing with paint.net is that it gives you a broader range of colours.
Overall, these two programs are great for skinning but I prefer McSkin3D for the above reasons.
