Within the past month, the hate that is derived from the 1.6 Snapshots have been going up higher than Kalifa. This is mostly because "1.5's Snapshots were more interesting and useful." Fans say that the additions that 1.5 brought were truly important, and will help with any kind of maps. The new Redstone Block, acting as a powered block at all times, the new hopper, which can store entities and send them, and the new comparators, which open doors to many new aspects.
"All they added were carpets, some new blocks and horse equipment. I mean, the horses are very interesting, but this snapshot could've been delayed, and included more." It may seem like nothing new was added, but we have a lot more map-making tools in this new update. With the new coal block, you can simply smelt over a stack of blocks, and the dark, gloomy lapis-like texture stands out differently from obsidian and black wool. In addition, hardened clay was added. Not only does this create 16 new blocks with different dyes for stained clay, but it also opens many new opportunities. These 16 new blocks show a much more vibrant color, and opens a door to 16 new blocks when designing a resource pack.
"Resource packs are definitely not needed. I don't want to have to modify the sound and everything." Resource packs can be texture packs if you want. You modify what you want. If you only change the textures, it can be treated as a texture pack. Adding more than what is needed can always be looked at as positive in an aspect. Even if the majority won't use it, some of you will, and it will definitely be effective.
Going back to new entity additions, comparators allow you to output redstone signals from different blocks, such as the End Portal frame, and carpets allow you to place a block that will be pushed by pistons and act like any other block, but will also not elevate you 1/16th into the air. Carpets can also be placed on non-solid blocks, which can hide redstone and allow you to perform redstone tricks such as "invisible hoppers," etc.
"Golden apples were already useless, and now you need 8 ingots? Nobody's gonna make a golden apple now." Well, Golden Apples are now much more valuable. With 2 new commands, HealthBoost, and Absorption, you can now increase your maximum health. These make Golden Apples "OP" now, and it is even being considered as cheap by fans.
There are name tags to change names in survival, leads to make interesting designs, and hay bales. Don't forget about the horses as well! They can be incorporated into AMAZING adventure maps, and can be used as a base for much more! I've left out a lot more! But the point of this is to show that this update is not what fans underestimate it to be. Give it a chance. Tell me what you think below! Hate or not, I'd like to know your opinions as well :)

I also can't wait to tame a horse and ride it into the sunset, looking badass doing it as well! XD
But I do quite like the addition of sounds into it. Basically changing any single sound in minecraft. I have been having a lot of fun with this and I think resource packs will have a big impact on map making.
