Ok so here is a pretty much "starter" tutorial to surviving. I have been playing Minecraft for over a year, so I pretty much know the basics of survival. But anyways, this tutorial will (possibly) help you from just punching trees-hunting food, and lots more!

Hunting:

       Ok, so here is how to hunt UN-hostile mobs. Normally, when you hit them, they will run in circles. Here are some tips to avoid this:
1. Make an area for hunting where you can only enter and exit.      2. Trap the mob(s that) you want to kill.
3. Kill the mobs.      

                     NOW here is how to hunt HOSTILE mobs:

1. (Try) to get a safe distance using a bow and arrow. This works for creepers, witches, and skeletons.

2. Shoot bow and arrows until the HOSTILE mob dies.

3. You have killed the mob.

Shelter:


                              You will NEED this, and it can save your items...

Tips to building shelter:
Use a good material to make it like Cobblestone. (creeper protected in a way)
So no zombies come in, make a secret entrance to your house.
Make sure you have stuff in it like a bed, a crafting table, furnace, etc.
Include windows to track enemies.
Make a 2nd floor to use for hunting. (Bow and arrow)
