Hey guys, Arcanium Ichor here and today I'm going to *try* to help you improve your PvP for both 1.8 AND for 1.9! Lets begin with 1.8. (Note: I will not re-write 1.8 sections for 1.9 unless they need to be adapted for 1.9.)

1.8 PvP
The "Art" of 1.8
1.8 PvP is the dominant type of PvP, even now. 1.8 has no cooldown timer, Swords do more damage than Axes (but you can apply Fire Aspect to Axes) and it was really all about Ping & your Mouse.

Part I: Strafing

Strafing is one of the most important things to do in 1.8 PvP (and PvE). If you stay still / charge at your foe in a straight line, they could BowSpam you or Strafe. Strafing is achieved most commonly by pressing 2 directional keys that control different axis' (e.g. W + D or S + A). This makes it slightly harder for your enemy to hit you, which could make a big difference. This requires a lot of practice (as well as patience!)

Part II: Where to aim

Most people when they PvP just hit whatever they can slice. However, as proven by multiple videos, hits register more if you attack the legs, but you have more space to hit them if you attack the head. This takes practice and is of your preference.

Part III: BlockHitting

BlockHitting is controversial; some people like it, others don't. When you hit someone you just block immediately after to stop their attack. However, this works best when your opponent has bad ping / can't combo you.

Part IV: Criticals

Yes, Criticals are slightly overrated, but they do help. When strafing, just jump. It is important that you time these jumps correctly, as you can only Crit someone when you're falling. However, you take more knockback whilst in the air, and it can be a lot harder for people to hit you.

Part V: JitterClicking or ButterflyClicking

These two are extremely important, as whilst doing them, you will most likely get a ton more hits off. The Hyperlinked videos are not my content what so ever, but they are a good reference guide. Butterfly clicking and Jitter clicking cannot cause Carpel Tunnel Syndrome or Arthritus.

Part VI: Preparation

There is some more personalized PvP fighting styles, and this comes with Preparation. Are you going to be a Brute, heavily enchanted diamond armor with a heavily enchanted diamond sword, an Assassin, with Invis pots, a heavily enchanted diamond sword or a Pyro, with lava buckets, flint and steel & TNT galore? Or even for 1.9 -- an Albatross with a heavily enchanted bow and projectile protection Iron Gear? The possibilities are practically endless!

Part VII: Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment is very important - are you fighting on a dangerous cliff or a wide-open Plains? Does your enemy have full Diamond Armor, or just Leather Boots? Don't get too cocky - even someone with full Leather can wreck you, even if you have full Diamond.

Part VIII: Potion UseMinecraft PvP - 1.8 & 1.9

Potion Use is basic - have healing pots near your sword and whilst clicking switch to another slot, throw it down and get back to wrecking. However, this is risky since you could accidentally heal your foe.

Part IX: Bowspamming and Rodding.Minecraft PvP - 1.8 & 1.9

Though frowned upon, BowSpamming is a legitimate method. You just hold back your bow for enough time to fire a quick shot that does little damage to get them away. Rodding is the same, but you can spam it and is more often used for Combos.

Alrighty, that's 1.8 practically covered (remember, practice!). Now onto 1.9.

1.9 PvP
1.9 PvP requires some more skill, but if you can 1.8 PvP, you can jump into 1.9!

Dual Wielding, Attack Cooldown & Axes!Axe

I decided to put these all into one section since it isn't too much information. If you're familiar with Mine & Blade - Battlegear then you'll know about Dual Wielding - you put your item in the slot and use your hotbar! Simple enough. Attack Cooldown requires looking at the Attack Cooldown Meter (go into Settings -> Video) and hitting your foe when it's full. While Axes are appealing and do big damage in a short time, Swords have Fire Aspect and have a better DoT.

'Go - Run with it. Make trouble.'
