As we all know, the minetorials contest is in the judging stage, and has been up for approximately 4 weeks. I feel that minetorials finalists were selected unfairly because of the following reasons:
1.) Many of the contestants had gotten an unfair advantage by entering their tutorials as late as they possibly could so that it would be at the top when people selected the entries tab in the minetorials page. Since so many more people viewed it and it was the last judged (Assuming they go in chronological order, from the earliest entries to the later entries) It had approximately 6 days of being at the top, giving it almost a 1000% view increase. I am not saying the tutorials that were posted in the last possible second are bad, I just feel that they don't deserve that many views. Since they got so many views, more people diamonded it and to top that, community downvotes were not included in the judging. I conclude this reason with this statement: Don't let the last tutorials get all the glory; randomize the blogs when someone clicks on the entries tab!
2.) I believe the way that the finalists are selected is unfair. My way would be like this:
Day 1-21: Entry Period.
Day 22-28: Public voting period meaning the amount of diamonds and views it has divided by the amount of downvotes it has select the top 50 finalists.
Day 28-31: Judging by selected judges
My system is not much different, but I feel like gives the community more of a say.
My 2 reasons are very broad, but should be considered by the site administrators and moderators or anyone who runs the contest. I conclude my blog with a question to the community: Should the contest format be changed to give every entry and equal opportunity at winning or should it stay the same?
