Since Jonkagstrom joined the Mojang crew, we have seen some very nice and well though through AI improvements. Many people are screaming for more mobs of new blocks, but more interesting would be certain kinds of behavior, with unique actions and precautions per mob.

We already have this to a certain degree, but most of it only comes out through the attacks of certain mobs (the explosion of creepers, ghast firing, ...) and more recently in Golem-mob interaction and creeper-ocelot interaction.

A next step would of course be trading and quest with villagers, but there could be a large benefit to giving other mobs even more unique behaviors. F.e. When mining Endstone, you have a chance of agroing any Enderman in a 15-block radius. It would reflect player behavior when Enderman take blocks from structures away.

Another example could be certain differences between spawnrates of different mobs in different biomes. One example of this is the spawning of slimes in certain chunks and the Enderman exclusive spawns in the End. Other examples that could be implemented would be a decrease of creeper & spider spawnrates in a dessert, whilest zombie and skeleton spawnrates would be higher. This would seem 'logical' as a dessert is "dead".

We have also seen the introduction of biome-specific spawnrates, namely the ocelots in jungle biomes. Another example that is likely to be introduced (hinted by Jeb & Jonkagstrom in several tweets) are mummies in desserts and the upcoming feature of more dessert structures (we've already seen the dessert wells and the recent introduction of the new sandstone blocks also might be a hint for new dessert structures to be introduced).

Keeping these recent developments and hints in mind, here's a couple ideas I had that might fit in the upcoming features that go along with the current improved mob-behavior.

Mob-unique Behavior.
  • When mining Endstone or attacking the Enderdragon or Endercrystals, there are different chances of angrying all Endermen in a 15 to 25 block radius (F.e. 15% chance of angry Enderman when mining Endstone, 65% chance when destroying an Endercrystal and a 85% chance when having attacked the Enderdragon). This would fit with the idea that the Enderdragon might be the "boss" of all Endermen.

  • Applying the Ocelot-Creeper behavior to Wolf-Skeleton interaction.

  • Interaction between skeletons and creepers when you're accompanied by a tamed Ocelot, in which a skeleton will shoot at the cat instead of the player to 'help' the creeper.

  • Same as before, but reversed when a skeleton is faced with a wolf and a creeper is in the vicinity.

  • Golems direct aim primarily at zombies instead of at any hostile mob that's first detected.
Different spawnrates for different mobs in different biomes:
  • 35% increase of creepers and spiders in forested areas, like the Jungle, Forest & Swampland.

  • 65% increase of zombies and skeletons in Dessert, along with a 85% decrease of creepers, spiders and enderman.

  • Overal a 55% decrease for all hostile mobs in Mushroom biomes (due to the 'spores' and such, I mean, look at those cows).
