PROLOUGE
Candace never thought she would be where she was: alone, in the woods. She had never been so sad ;she had only the hoot of near by owls to keep her company.
The pine needles were wet against her bare feet. She missed her family. She missed home.Small tears trickled down her face and she knew that there was no looking back.

2 WEEKS EARLIER...

CHAPTER 1

The car. It can be friend or foe. The good thing about it is it can take you anywhere. The bad thing about it is it can take you anywhere. Wether you like it or not.
Candace sat looking at this complicated piece of machinery. Loathing it. Tomorrow it would be taking her to the worst place you could imagine. Maine. Now I'm not saying that Maine is a horrible place but in this instant for this girl it was the worst place imaginable. You see, Candace was moving from her cozy little house in Ohios large city to Maine. Away from her friends. Away from her school. Away from her life.
In the last month her family had sold half of their belongings to fit in the new house. A house that they had visited. Her great aunts house. Great aunt Margaret, an old widow with no children had left a house in her will to none other than Candace's dad great aunt Margaret's nephew.
All of the thoughts in the world raced through Candace's mind at once. She sat with her head resting on her knees. Her family had never moved before. They had had the same house and the same friends for 13 years. And all of it was about to change. She daydreamed about her last conversation with her best friend Ava. By then Ava had already know about the move. The conversation had started with the ring of a phone. "Hey" Ava had said.
"Hey" Candace had said back.
"it sucks that you're moving."
"Yeah it does."
"We can still talk on the phone every day."
"Every day."
"Yeah. Have you gotten your toiletries yet."
"What?"
"I said have you gotten your toiletries yet?"
Candace began to snap out of her day dream and there her dad was with a stern expression on his face. "Well have you?"
"No. Not yet."
"Well you'd better hurry up were leaving tomorrow and you need to pack."
"Okay." Her dad began to leave back to the house. Candace waited until the door shut before going back to her daydream.

CHAPTER 2

The next morning came too soon for Candace. When she woke up she almost forgot about all of what she was thinking about in the past day. She almost forgot about moving. All of the memories slipped out of her mind like grains of sand slipping through fingers. For those few glorious moments the day was almost good. Then her father came in and she remembers everything. The smile that she hadn't noticed had been forming across her face quickly disappeared. "What's wrong?" He said. "Nothing." said Candace.
"Time to go."
"Already?"
"Yeah. Your mom and I decided to get an early start."
"Oh."
"See you downstairs in a few minutes.'
"See you." Candace went in to the bathroom and stared at herself for a long minute. Maybe it was more than a minute because by the time Candace finished getting dressed her dad was coming back up the stairs to get here down.
Candace dreaded leaving but she had to. That's how Candace ended up moving without saying goodbye to any of her friends.

CHAPTER 3

The car ride felt like forever. By the time they got to the house it was 6. They drove up to the house and as they did Candace saw a boy just about her age riding his bike along side the car. He tried to wave but ended up falling off his bike and crashed into the curb. Right in front of Candace's new house.
Candace's mom rushed down to the boy to help him while Candace and her dad unloaded what was in the car. It wasn't much. most of the stuff was still on it's way in the moving van. Candace's dad's phone rang and he had to step out of the room while Candace and her mom sat on the floor with the boy.
"Are you okay?" mom asked
"Just fine" The boy said. " I do that kind of thing a lot. I'm sort of a klutz."
"What's your name?"
"Noa. Yours?" He said looking at Candace.
"Candace." She said.
"That's a nice name." Noa said timidly.
"Thank you." Said Candace.
"Don't mention it." Said Noa.
