moving earth??

I was looking around my creations and found this: the ground seems to have moved and sliced off a chunk of my dojo. The entire side of the wall is gone but the torches are still in place- floating in mid air. Also, that pool of water wasn't there before and it's quite deep. Anyone heard of this before? Or is it an isolated glitch?

There are these glitches where chunks in old saves are reloaded using the new generation systems of newer versions than the one in which the save was generated. It's the same thing you can see happening when you expand an old map or save in a newer minecraft version. This most times happens on servers though, very rarely on singleplayer worlds.

it happened again. over half my gorram world has been deleted which includes almost everything i've posted on here. same world. how rare exactly? cause, i didn't update or anything...

If it keeps happening, then you've probably messed around with the .dat-files, otherwise this shouldn't be so frequently. Or your save has become corrupted. That basically means that something damaged the file, removing entire chunks from the memory, thus causing Minecraft to re-generate them when you enter them. I have had such a corruption once, when my laptop crashed. I lost everything, but managed to get back my Minecraft save-files, and encountered the same problem. Whole chunks were gone and I lost a huge part of a map. I recommend making back-ups regularly and re-installing Minecraft every so weeks.
