Sup doods, I'v been playing games since the late 1990's. My first console was a Nintendo 64, one of the greatest pieces of gaming engineering of it's days. My first game for the console? Super Mario 64 of course. That game is a classic. Please note that I am aware that I missed great gaming milestones, such as the ATARI, NES, and SNES, but I still knew about them, and what they had contributed to the gaming industry. There was also an arcade in the town I grew up where i went and played a wide variety of arcade games such as Galactica, Space Invaders, and many of the oldschool games.

As I grew up, I kept gaming as a hobby, and that really turned into a passion. I spent time on games and was fascinated by what they created; a whole new world. So I kept buying new generation systems, moving from the N64 up to a Nintendo Gamecube, then a variety of handheld systems. So you can see that I stayed on the Nintendo side of things there. I was just very pleased with the titles that Nintendo released, some of my favorite titles have been from Nintendo, much like Super Mario Word and the Legend of Zelda franchise. I then made a switch to the Xbox 360, and this is where competitive gaming, so to speak, was introduced to me. Games such as Halo, Call of Duty, and Battlefield molded me from a very laid back Nintendo gamer, to a much more competitive gamer that is what you usually see in any multiplayer game. After a long time on the xbox 360, I made a switch to pc gaming, where rts, moba, and a wide range of games occupied my time.

Okay, now that you know a rough foundation of my gaming history I'll get to the real point. Throughout my gaming history I feel like the more modern games get easier, and a lot less entertaining. Mainstream games such as call of duty, LoL, starcraft, battlefield, all these games got so bland after such a short time, that I was downright annoyed of playing them. There was no challenge in the game, and the replayability of them diminished. After I realized this, about 2 or so years ago, I decided to go back to some old school stuff, like Mario, Legend of Zelda, and I also found a passion for Indie Games, they are original, entertaining, and can pose quite a challenge. That's what was missing! The room for mistakes in older games is much less, and the penalty greater. That's what videogames should be, challenging and rewarding when you achieve something. Not some same old routine that grants no actual feeling of accomplishment.

I feel like game developers are taking a step in the wrong direction, only seeking success in one way. They want money and that's it, even if they have to be part of the majority we see today, making their games playable, but to a certain extent. They pump money into next generation graphics and engines, but completely overlook the one purpose of videogames in the long run, playability, and a good time. Nowadays all we see is clones of games with a different skin, why not make games like the old days? Where I had to work for my checkpoint, think hard about a dungeon [ Yeah I'm talking about ANY water Temple in a Legend of Zelda game ], and have a new experience every time I finished a game.

I guess you can call this a rant if you wanted to, and I didn't even write this well, but whatever, it get's my point across. So really I want more challenge in games, fuck the casual gamer, if they want to play games casually go play some solitaire or 3d pinball or some shit. I'm a gamer, I want good games!
