Horror... [Skinning AND Story Writing Contests!!1!]
Solid text version
Radio static filled the majority of the house. She hummed along as she finished packing her things, shaking as she zipped closed the bag. She paused. It still didn’t feel right. No matter what her husband called her, psychopath, maniac, or whatever his blind mind was limited to seeing, she knew. What does one do when the world is against them? Do they shrug off what they’ve seen and cling to people for vital sanity? Or run away and hide from these monsters that don’t believe you?
Everyone lost hope in her. Everyone but two.
Dragging the heavy bag, she left a note to her husband for when he came back from work. The garage door felt damp, more so than usual. She quickly backed out of the garage, and sped off.
The news kept playing dramatic stories as he read the note. “A body found on Patyr Avenue police claim-“he turned off the TV. The note was short, but he understood what it meant.
“The demons are gone.”
Content to counseling had finally worked, though confused his wife wasn’t home yet, he drifted to sleep.
When he awoke, the cold winter air was filling the house. Freezing, he walked to the air conditioner’s spot next to the front door. The door was open. “Mel? Where were you? Where are you?” After door close and full house search, he grabbed the home phone and called her on her cell. A loud ring behind him caused him to drop the phone.
Mel was wearing her usual workout clothes, but free of any sweat. Trying to fix the deafening silence, he asked his wife if she wanted breakfast. A quick nod and walk to the kitchen revealed another note in the same place it was before.
“The demons are gone.”
Shrugging it off as Mel’s normal jokes, he proceeded to making eggs and waffles for breakfast. As he opened the fridge to grab some eggs and juice, a small folded paper fell out.
“The demons are gone.”
Despite now feeling creeped out, he once again shrugged it off, and found they were out of eggs. “Mel we’re out of eggs, I’ll go drop by the store and get some more”
Before he reached the garage door handle, he pulled back in disgust. A terrible odor filled the air. A sudden burst of bravery brought him to open the door. He looked around. He checked drawers, cabinets, the car, and headed to the trunk. Mel stood at the garage door, leaning against the side. He opened the trunk. He fell back. He looked to Mel at the door. Another look into the trunk confirmed what he saw. Mel’s lifeless body lie in the trunk of their car. He glanced back at the door. Mel was no longer standing there. The garage went black. He felt wind on the back of his neck.
“The demons never leave.”
