Hello people of PMC, my name is Azureila (of course, not irl, but for the sake of this post), but you can call me Azu. This is my first ever submission of anything on this site, so I guess bare with me if I get something wrong or post something that isn't popular, etc. I just wanted to talk/post something. :D
For nearly a year, I've been part of a new and upcoming server that I stumbled upon one day while looking for new (oh, and I mean new, fresh out of the oven new) servers since I didn't care for huge servers with 324532 players online or had Factions/Skyblock/HungerGames/somethingsomething, I'm a vanilla kinda gal. I searched for semi-vanilla and new on another server listing website and found this place. Oh btw, I'm not going to say the server name or IP, as I'm assuming that'd be taken as advertising. If you really want to know what server I'm talking about, either PM me or look through my past activity.
ANYWAY, I jumped on this server and was immediately welcomed by 2-5 people, including the owner. I don't respond immediately because I am reading the rules that have been posted at spawn and in general exploring the small but beautiful spawn area. After interacting with other players including the owner, I come to find out this server is UHC Survival. I've never dealt with any other type of gamemode but I was close to quiting and finding another server, but iunno what kept me there. I decided to give it a few days before calling it quit, and I'm glad I did. I quickly got used to the gamemode with the help of other new players, some of which were in the same boat as me.
As I look back, I know now I stayed because of the people that were on here, some of whom are still here today. This is something huge servers don't have: community. Or at least, the capacity to create an interpersonal community within all of its players. When you strip a server to the bare minimum to run, players will be forced to interact with one another in a different sense than being put together in a match or some other type of feature like Factions. I like these types of servers that do this.
Back to the server I'm talking about. I'm now the head admin on the server, also called the Head Community Manager. I absolutely love interacting with players AS a player myself since admins on this server aren't given unnecessary powers. I never thought I'd be with this server for so long or be one of the ones helping it stay up and running and welcoming the new players who stumble across this server the way I did a year ago.
Thanks for reading, Azu :D
