Origins - The Cube.

In the years after the Great War, villany and criminality was great and abound. Many who had fled saw their chance as robbers and thiefs. What else could they do? Lands ravaged, villages burned down, a dessert consuming all land known to them. A life of thieving and robbing certainly looked better then all of that.

But after peace is regained, all will be restored and so too would order. In the newly formed nations, Angelus became one of the most feared ones when it came down to public safety. The Airguild, who held all control firmly in their hands, had made an enormous archive of written down accounts of pillaging, robbing, thieving, murdering, ... All facts collected, it was any criminals largest fear. The Guild soon began a purge, an enormous hunt on those whom they called the 'Tainted'.

This Purge began in the city of Tyrania and spread quickly to the nearby cities; Elvenborough, Arabasque, Grag'Nor, ...
Eventually the purge had spread all over the country and many were arrested. Thousands upon thousands men, women and teens were taken for commiting such crimes and all were never seen again.

A year before the Purge began, construction began upon the Cube, an enormous prison that was to hold all those criminals, a prison one could never escape. It contained hundreds upon hundreds of rooms, all linked together, but never with more then two doors. The entire thing was a maze, a maze designed never to be solved. Those thrown in after completion could wander for months before actually dying from dehydration or starvation.

In total, over 17.347 people were thrown into this prison, almost 17% of the entire population at that time. The Purge lasted three months and ended two years after it was planned about for the first time.

Nowadays, the Cube lays underneath Arctic Laputa, a city of the Sky, abandoned due to environmental anomalies. It lays there, locked, silent, quiet, but sometimes, on very few occasions, any creeper, zombie, spider or skeleton can hear a faint whisper coming from inside, often followed by the sound of something falling into the lava lake below the Cube.

How many were thrown in is known, but how many are left? That's a whole different story...
