vvvmgpngAfter reading YoshiTheGreenYoshi's blog about what has happened to PMC, and the comments on it, I decided to answer those comments. I do want to say that Yoshi is a great friend of mine, but his blog had a few issues.

Why Did I Write This?

Because they're still there. There is still mayhem in our Minecrafting society. And telling us what they're doing wrong isn't going to help anything. The only thing that will help is action. I want to be the explanation and the rallying cry. We can do this.

What's Really The Problem?

What is the source of all this trouble? It's not all those level 1 members that give us links to supposedly free Minecraft gift codes, those who believe in Diamond for Diamond and Sub for Sub, the ones that copy skins and call them their own, or even those that completely and totally ignore the rules. It's us. All of us. Everyone who posts quality work on this here website is guilty for this. Even myself. But I'm going to do something about this.

What Can Be Done To Stop These Beasts?

News Flash: Moderators Aren't Perfect. They can't catch 'em all. They do everything in their power (Well, most of them) to prevent these souls from corrupting this site. But we can help. How? Well, first of all, by not telling us what the problems are. We all know what the problems are. And most of us know how to stop them. Just click that little flag, or that exclamation mark. It's that simple. Even if just 1,000 of us spent 5 minutes a day (preferably not all at the same time) skimming through the skins, texture packs, servers, forums, anywhere that these criminals could be lurking, and reporting/flagging them, Planet Minecraft could be a little more peaceful place, and would get even more peaceful every day.

Do you want Planet Minecraft to be a calmer, less spammy, and more original website? Then put down your pen and pick up the flag! Even if you spent just 5 minutes a day trying to hunt these people down, this goal could be achieved in a matter of weeks, maybe even days. It just takes effort. I may not be able to read the minds of the mystical Moderators, but I know that they appreciate assistance whenever they can get it!

Agreed. Though the real problem now is that the posts aren't breaking rules, they're generally posting useless 2-minute blogs.

You have a good point. You really do. When I first started out, I abused the blogging section! *Gasps fill the room, people say "WHAT?!?!?! Skullduggerycain, the wonderful person, abuse the thing he loves to do?"* But it's true, I used it for stuff that should have been on the forums, etc. I myself flag blogs like that now, and I myself have learned from those mistakes. I think you're right, if we start flagging, and letting the moderators know about these things, we can improve the quality of work on this site. Diamond for you, my good friend.

If it weren't for those spammers, maybe planet minecraft wouldn't take 5 minutes to load and they wouldn't have made the login email-based.

Well, Yoshi's blog was a typical feature of any community in that it acted like a mirror and blatantly said 'You're ugly', however even in that he missed a couple of prime issues. While I'll leave all the finger pointing to others, I highly doubt any action will truly aid the situation- flagging, removing and banning are reactive measures. In order to remedy this there needs to be a shift in mentality of those producing the content, and the community as a whole. However, this is practically impossible, as it would require individuals to independently judge and restrict themselves, an action which the majority of the Minecraft demographic would not perform. As such, there will always be 'dregs' of PMC, and anything that allows free publication of user-generated content. Rant over :)
