For my English school assignment, I am making a Dystopian short story set in the USA. I'm probably not going to follow this up with other parts, but this is the intro so far, and I'm quite proud of it. Feel free to continue it if you guys would like. Please keep in mind that this is fiction, and I am not trying my best to be accurate or "right", so no need to start up a fight if you believe there are flaws in the setting of this story. Also, this is set sometime in the future; it is not stated how far away this fictional timeline is from our own.

Ash envelops the floor. The crackling, the red hot flakes drifting in the
air. The scorched scene, heating the air around. One would have
thought the fire has stopped, but look over the small mounds of burnt
wood, and they can see that an inferno is still alive. A large flame,
threatening those who come near. Doubt would fill the mind of whoever
thought that there were still fire kindling in the hearts of those
who are still alive in this destitute spot. The fact slams hard onto
the viewer; there is nothing alive here.


Of course, that is because this chaos is only happening in a charming
fireplace, warming a quaint and cozy home of a certain programmer, on
a certain winter day...


Xuehua is sitting on a dark brown leather couch. Holding a cup of hot
applesauce, the small chunks of apple are still whirling around like
little Hershey's Kisses...long dead, but still existant for some
strange reason. They would have gone down his throat if he wasn't
thinking so hard on why the color of his couch is reminding him so
much of something. The TV suddenly makes a discordant sound,
prompting him to look back and see what so rudely interrupted his
train of thought.


"HTC and Lenovo are discussing the possibility of a joint venture, as both
sides wish to share experiences in the markets of both sides of the
newly reunited China. On other news, Apple and the Microsoft-Google
union continue to have a fierce battle for superiority in the
technological market, with Apple's stock value closing in at .01%
higher above the union's stock value last night, a staggering new
record of competitiveness between the two popular providers of
high-end desktop computers", as the television drones on with
the voice of Athlie, North America's most popular and most cliche
digital news reporter.


"What!? How could our side be losing!?", the shocked programmer
exclaims. He always had a certain distaste towards Apple Inc., as he
has always been a loyal supporter of Microsoft for over a decade now.
His computer has heard of the news as well, and is already well
underway in searching around Google and news websites to find out why
exactly did their fierce enemy get such a surprising increase in
stock value, considering they were lagging behind just a week ago.
Xuehua and his computer both arrive at the same conclusion at the
same time; "It must be because of their announcement of the
formation of a new gaming series of laptops!".


"I'll show them...a fancy new line of video game machines ain't going to
stop the union's front...we're going to win the race after I publish
my new game, infused with weeks of historical research and
emotion...which I was just going to get back to. Right.", he
whispers to himself as he picks up the thick book he has laid down
next to him. If anyone else were in the room, they would think he was
a bit crazy. But such suspicious little thoughts were nothing
compared to what he would do in the near future.
