Many of us have servers. A small little thing that you know won't grow quickly; something that you just have fun with. You advertise your server and find that Planet Minecraft would be a good place to advertise. You find that it is.
A whole surge of people come onto your server, and you are just astounded. A lot of them are grievers, others honest players.

In your happiness of having a server with 30+ people, you notice the numbers going down. You wonder why? What went wrong? Some of you may have noticed. If your server is at the top, people will see it and will join it. As other servers get posted, yours moves down the list. No longer is it in the Top 5 posts, no longer is it in the first page. It's somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd page no longer getting you players.

You become unhappy, knowing that the players you've gotten are all you will get. What will you do? You look around a bit and notice servers that you've seen before being posted again, and again. You want to do that. You revive your server, and many might do that. There's your surge, there's your 'high' and the only way to get it back is to post again, and again, and again. Why? You know that your post will never do well, you aren't really getting competent players, and you are getting in the way of posts that have only been posted once. You are doing wrong. Stop it. There are other ways to better your server.

Now, how can you do that, you ask? Well, for one, you can get it back to the top by revising your post, adding update logs, or providing us with more pictures. Is it surefire that your post will go back to the top? No. However, if it does, you can be happy in the fact that your post is still alive, got back to the top, and was not deleted. Additionally, I believe that if you post a really awesome project and link it to your server, people will want to see it, and therefore upping the popularity of your server.

It's best to have a grey list for these kind of things, where people can join the server, but cannot build or destroy blocks. Whitelists are the worst thing to have, as the player cannot see what's within the server, and usually has to do something before joining. Also, you could give them plain freedom, but this is only for 'Hardcore' or 'PvP' maps, otherwise you will wake up in the morning with half of the map gone.

Next thing you might want to do is encourage your members to 'recommend' the server. Giving out prizes for this may be unneeded, but do understand that the more there is to the post, the greater a chance of people joining - all of this without reposting your server.

So, if those reasons above aren't enough for you, and you still repost your server, get off of Planet Minecraft. This is a place for people to share their projects and buildings. Not a place for you and your kind to siphon an honest player's spotlight.
