Servers have always asked you to put in full effort and be creative, but is building something amazing for a server that will eventually go down worth it?
Reasons Not:
~once you make a build/project the server owner can do what ever he or she wants with it, such as blow it up, take the credit, or use it as something to base the server off of.
~Many things you make on servers cannot be put into a world save, it prevents planet minecraft project submissions from having potential. Pictures arent enough, world saves count.
~Servers are bound to go down sometime right? Funding becomes an issue alot of times.Once the server is gone, your projects go with it.
~Admin/owners sometimes take advantage of people, sometimes in projects.
~Many people might hate your builds and they will grief the server. Project goes bye, bye!
Reasons You should:
~Building on servers improves the moral of the server and could be used as a reason just to join a server.
~You could earn large amounts of money from your builds.
~You earn the respect of fellow players and gain more and more experience as you build.
~Many people are inspired by works of art. Buildings just might be one of them!
~Big time Servers always started small,so building builds the small servers up.
I constantly wonder if i should just quit building on multiplayer servers. When someone ask me to build something, i think about it for a bit, most likely i start drinking coffee. I am not telling you guys to grief servers, to me as long as you made the build you have a right to do what ever you want to it.
I hope you guys found this interesting. =3

Bans
A server owner could just easily ban you and take all your builds, if you feel like you are being threatend or mis-treated, delete your builds and be gone!
Evidence:
I was an admin on this server called builtit something, the owner killed me when i was building, two times. I got tired of it and i logged out and took a break like i always do. I come back and find myself deranked. I decided to remove everything i built(only mine) there was only one thing left, which was the spawn i took awhile to make.Yes, i trusted this guy. but i guess hes was just like everyone else. The spawn was protected, which is not right because i made it my self and i should be able to edit it. All my plots were a majority of the server/creative zone so im glad i removed most of my stuff.
Framing
Any experienced owner can figure out who griefed a server , but when the owner has no experience you can get framed for something you didnt do. Most people think its funny to see someone get banned, in reality that person will most likely feel bad.

Have something to say?
Hiding things like signs in walls and floors or a few books in random chests scattered around (or hidden in) the build, esp in things like "storage rooms" with 10+ empty chests next to eachother, that say who the real builder is incase someone ever tries to claim the build as their own takes care of most of the other issues too.
These days anyone can just download an amazing building or structure from the internet and paste it to their server or project/map.
From a server owner's perspective-- after two years, it begins to feel like less and less of a priority to build nice things when players that join don't seem to notice or care.
" If ever there was a reason to *not* build-- it is the fact that so much work goes into building, and how badly underappreciated it all is."
^kind of how i feel when i build :/.
Thanks for posting.
