Welcome! This is a blog on how to ignore all those people on your server.



If people just join the server and ask for staff, there is not dedication in them and they will not help the server at all. Don't Just ban them straight of the bat.

To extend, if your server is not to popular and is new and you advertise it and don't get much people, make sure they stay on the server and be dedicated. If they are dedicated they might bring some friends into the server. Which will populate the server. If people come in and ask for staff while your server only reaches a few players a day. Don't make them write an application, Don't make them staff. Make them play. So you know you can trust them. It will also populate the server with members and not to much staff.



How to know if you need staff. If you have 5 people on a server a day. It is best to only have 2 admins. Such as the Owner and CoOwner/Admin. You don't want too much people that are staff at all. It will bring a bigger chance of betrayal. Also the members will feel that they get less attention because there is only a few members but too much staff. So then that will trigger them to not play on your server or they will repeatedly ask for staff.

HOW TO ATTRACT PLAYERS:

A lot of people like to play Survival Games, Splegg, Prop Hunt and other minigames. Not a lot of players like to play vanilla or survive. They Want intense games and a lot of fun. So what theme should your server be? It can be anything. It can be a regular Minigame server like Shotbow.net and McTheHive.

IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A REGULAR SURVIVAL SERVER, you should, it will attract some players, if you want more players than average. Add some minigames to the server like the one that is listed above. It will attract mini game players. It Might make them play survival and get used to what they used to do.

How to make those players stay: If you want them to stay on the server. Always have them try to do survival. Always have at least 1 minigame event a day so they come on and play the minigames then when the event is over, they can either come back the next day or play survival while they wait for the next minigame event is called.

HOW TO FIGHT AGAINST GRIEFERS:

A lot of Owners of servers like to threaten the hacker/griefer. Such as "Im going to sue you if you don't stop. Really? That type of response wont help. As of, who would get sued for breaking a few blocks, If it is against the rules. You should IP Ban them first. Then ban the username.

IS THERE A TEAM OF GRIEFERS/HACKERS ON YOUR SERVER??? Well, always get into a teamspeak or Skype call with your staff team. And setup a plan to stop these ignorant people ASAP. If you have team of 3 griefers and they start to grief your builds, you should get in a call with 2 other admins or any group that can IP Ban and Ban. Tell them there targeted player so then do /banIP [player] then /ban [player].



If that wasn't clear let me put it in this way. You have 3 admins on. You are the owner and you spot hardcore griefing and the griefers near there. There is 3 griefers. You get into a call with your admins and give them a player to IP ban them. So Here is the list of the usernames that are the admins. This is you [Potataman] and this is the two admins you are in a call with. [Bob] and [Peter]. Give them one of the server enemies and you both press enter at the same time



So just say the 3 griefers are [Piggeh] [Niamo] and [TheBuzzer], you would give yourself Piggeh and type /banip Piggeh. Then you give Bob Niamo so he will type /banip Niamo. then you give peter thebuzzer and he will type /banip thebuzzer. Then you ban them at the same time so if one of them is a hacker, they don't unban their friends and continue their rampage. After you banIP them you should always quickly ban them with /ban.



What if there is 2 griefers and one admin? You should always IP ban first. If you have access to console, you should type one of the griefers IGNs in the ingame chat as /banip then you use the console to ban the other at the same time. You don't have to ban them at the same time but it is always safe to use that method.

How to get confidence to decline/reject a players staff APP:

. You should make a website on enjin (a good website make that supports paypal donations) and have a forum or a page where they can apply. If their app is really good, but you don't know if you can trust them, ask them for a letter of recommendation. If they don't have any. Look his/her username up on google. So just say the person that applied was named Portal111. Search Minecraft Portal111 Bans. if he has some bans that are really nasty or something you do not tolerate, you should immediately reject their post. If there is someone with a mediocre application and does not have a letter of recommendations, search minecraft [Player Name] bans. If there is no bans or little bans like accidental grief. you should rank that person as the lowest staff rank. Then let him work his way up from there. DO NOT GIVE OP TO PLAYERS. ONLY GIVE OP TO FRIENDS YOU TRUST OR TALK TO ON A DAILY BASIS. If you give OP to somebody that you don't know and just applied. They might betray the server and world edit your spawn and other builds to death.

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR SELF FROM CONSOLE HACKERS:

you should always turn off the server without warning. Only do this if you host this server on your computer. If they hack your console and you host it on a computer, you should turn off the server and turn off your computer and don't come back in a day or a couple hours, this will tell the hacker "What? I cant hack the console? Im in his computer right now! Oh, he shut down his computer, Ill just wait." He will have to wait days or hours. Eventually he will get tired/bored of waiting and he will bother a different server.

If someone is hacking you and you bought a minecraft server. FIRST!!! you should change your password ASAP. Change it into a password that will not be easily guessed. By the time you changed your console/controlpanel password. Stop the server and look at the config files. ALWAYS MAKE SURE to check the op files. Deop the names you don't remember Opping. If you do not check the file, you could get griefed and/or hacked again. So always ban the person as well.
