It seems the links/pictures aren't working at the moment
Sorry for the incovience & lazyniss of mine to fix it.

Hello there,

and welcome to my first tutorial blog.
Which is also for the Julyo s SPEAK contest.

How about a little scenario:
You got, let say, 2 hours to build a village/city or a meeting hall from scratch.
Your build is going to be judged against others.
Side note: the building is hand-made

What do you do?
small or a big build
That is the question.

Small Builds

Small build
First a few pros & cons of a small build before I get to some examples, with pictures.

Pros:
- More time for detail
- Some terraforming
- Interior could be done

Cons:
- Looks less impressive thorough the smaller size.

Now some examples:

Village/City

How about this nice little cosy village (yeah I know it is part of a island I made, but it will do the village)

What does it have?

- Inn, with sleeping possibility
- Watchtower, with prison
- Mayor's hall, with little shops inside
- 4 home
- A well & a fountain
- City wall with functional gate

Meeting hall

See this lovely server spawn of mine

What does it feature?
- Little garden
- Fountain (this one can actually change but within a few hours I keep it out)
- Lots of chairs to watch someone speaking in the garden (oke, the stage is missing)
- Light trough redstone lamps

Big Builds
Again first some pros & cons.

Pros:
- Looks more impressive
- Tons of room for people

Cons:
- Lacks more detail
- Often no interior (is the most work)

now some examples

Village/City

Well that is a big, unfinished, city. (okay, it is an extreme one but I had no other of my own, and yes there is no link)

What does this one have?
- Tons of houses
- A small but high city walls with lava gates
- A graveyard
- Church
- Tons of space for a new buildings

Meeting hall

The mansion I made

What does it bring?
- Some nice cosy fires to warm up.
- A luxury feeling
- Rain proof

Conclusion
Small builds:
At first glance it doesn't look that impressive, but when the judges look further you got far more chance to win.
thorough the detail and ambiance you created.
Big builds:
When you make the exterior great it looks nice, but in the inside it have a unfinished feeling.
Still it is possible to win, but the judges are looking than the most for the exterior (sad proof).

It is up to you what you decide to make.
Small or big it depends on the situation
Credits & other
pictures

If you disagree or something like that:
go ahead, is fine with me,
but do it with valid arguments if you comment.

Do not forget the ridiculously detailed huge builds that the true masters come up with. they take a hell load of time, but they exist. that is my Aim.

I know they exist, and for those builds you need also a lot of patience, which I miss although I have quite some patience.
But in the blog I set a time limit, so you have to choose smaller with more detail or larger with less detail.
And that is the point I try to make clear, what to do with time you got to build something.

Good point. in that case I would go for the smaller one. also, the patience is indeed an issue, what you can see if you were to take a look at my submissions. not 1 of my large builds is finished.
