you can join a server from any device that can run current versions of the game, but if you're playing on console, you can only join the featured servers.
It depends on what your version is.
If it's Java Edition, you have to get a PC to get to a server.
If it's Bedrock Edition, you needn't get a PC, but you'd better get one.

People have been playing various versions of MC on public servers from various hardware for some time.
What version of MC you are playing (both platform java / br /other & numeric e.g. 1.16.4 ) must match the versions the server supports, however.
