Snow, snow, and more snow?!

Okay, so I've been working on this huge medieval world for an MMO server, I've been working on it for a while and I've successfully made a forest village, a Dwarfish mountain city, a desert fort, and lots of other things (I have some screenshots I might upload as a project, but I've been quiet about it thus far). I logged into it not to long ago to check up on it, and guess what I found? Apparently almost everything I had created had been covered with snow.

First, let me explain something- in the small area I had decided to transform into a medieval world, there wasn't a snowy terrain, but I insisted on having a snowy mountain for my dwarf city. So I decided to find the widest mountain (to contain the city) and cover it in snow. This went relatively well, it didn't look incredibly natural and it was raining instead of snowing, but I decided to live with it.

All was well, I had made many new creations since the dwarf mountain- and then... the update...

...Oh, the update...

Okay, so I entered the world and everything... EVERYTHING was covered in snow. At the time I was beginning to build my underwater city, when I realised the top of the waters had frozen over. This is when I realised the ice was travelling and "growing" at an alarming rate, I flew around for a bit and found that it was snowing everywhere.
I decided that there was no way the snow and ice would reach further than the dwarf mountain, which I obviously didn't mind, but then I realised it had travelled into the swamps and forests... in which I had built things that really REALLY didn't need snow...

In a nutshell, my medieval world is ruined. I decided that since I had a backup on a private Bukkit server, I would try to find some anti-snow and anti-ice mods for the server before booting it up... I have yet to see if these work... if they don't, I've lost everything I've worked on... unless you want to roll around in snow everywhere you go.

What do you guys think of this? I'm sure some of you like the idea of snow and ice travelling, but surely the amount of land it can span should be limited a little more? Comment below with your opinion.
