Strange shrines spawn

While working on a project of mine I was building in the desert. I was looking for a spot to start building when I saw this. I looked around a bit more and found another one! Half blocks and all! I swear I didn't build these and they couldn't have just spawned like that because of the half block. Something strange is going on and I can sense that notch is preparing for something big. Seriously, though, I didn't build this and it is freakin me out! What the heck is happining. Here if you don't believe me I'll put the seed. you spawn in a forest and on the map right below that is a bunch of hills. to the right of that is the desert where I found the shrines. I have found a few of them. My friend thinks they might be from some stupid villagers who tried to make a village in the desert, and died! Lol

According to the MC wiki, they're called desert wells and are supposed to be rare, but I've already found 4 of them in the same world.

Yeah its something Jeb or notch put in around 1.2.3, Theres nothing special about them at the moment,but it might be something like desert temples or something.
