The gates are hard to explain, for i myself have yet to try it out but i know some. The Timer is a redpower machine that allows you to set certain times ( in seconds) and it sends out a redstone current every 5 or so seconds depending on what you set on the timer. the toggle latch is a special little redpower piece that allows you to switch between two currents, making it much easier if you need to set up multiple machines with multiple redstone circuitry sets. Take note, all of them, (to my knowledge) can be toggled in some way. The sequencer is used for sending currents in THREE different ways, but, like a timer, it will take a full round based on how high your time is. The caller cell is another one, but it only goes on a 90 degree angle then snaps back, recommended use with a button. The RS Latch or Redstone Latch is another switching machine, you should use pressure plates because they are powered by two seperate currents, or turn entirely off if you use two switches. the gates can power multiple currents, but it is impossible for me to explain how they do change.
