I slowly opened my eyes. I carefully looked around trying to find out where I was. My back hurt, and my left arm ached, telling me it had to be broken. Without making a sound, I sat up. I looked down to my ankles and found a chain attached to each one. I tried to take them off, but my injured arm made that almost impossible. Then I heard footsteps. They sounded large, like those of a man. I quickly layed back down and closed my eyes, harshly biting my tounge trying to stifle a scream from the pain in my arm. The man approched the room I was in and opened the big door. He entered and said "I know you're awake." His voice was gruff, and made me cringe. I sat up.
"Who are you."
"Your new worst nightmare." These words only scared me more. What did he mean?
"I suppose I was taken hostage?"
"No. You are worth nothing."
"Where am I?"
"You're about to find out." After letting this last word leave his mouth he grabbed my left arm. I let out a screech and he only laughed. He said, "She did that to you. You better be careful around her."
"Who is her?" I panted. My arm still screamed at me in pain.
"Your sister." I stopped trying to fight him. What did he mean, my sister? She died three years ago in a fire.
"That's not possible," I choked out. "She died years ago."
"Or did she?" He laughed after this. He acted as though everyone knew she was still alive.
I let him drag me through the doorway by my leg, not caring that the hard stones of the floor were cutting into my back. My sister. She was alive?
After what seemed like an eternity of being dragged we approached a pair of wooden doors. The big man knocked seven times, then went in, still dragging me behind him. I wasn't prepared for what I saw; I belived she was alive, but I still had some second doubts. But when I saw her, with the same long, golden brown curls I had, I knew it was my sister. With a cracking voice I said, "Caroline," She looked at me, and for a moment, I thought I saw sympathy. She had broken my arm after all. "I didn't want to do things the way they had to be done, but I did what was neccasary." She mumbled. I almost didn't hear her. "I wanted to tell you sooner," she said softly, "But we couldn't locate you."
"Where are we?" I asked her in an equally as soft voice.
"Off the coast of Florida," She whispered, like it was some great secret.
"Where are Mom and Dad?" I asked her this in a slightly more demanding tone, so that she knew I wanted this question answered.
"I took care of them, Becca," She said. "At least I tried. I was going to let them know about this place, but they tried to kill me with the fires first," "I wanted to tell you sooner. Please believe me." She whispered.
"You're all I have left," I whispered back.
"Becca, they're after us, and I don't know what to do." The way she said this made my blood turn to ice. How did Caroline not know what to do? She always solved all of our problems.
