What The Armies Actually Ate:

Elysian Empire

The meals of the Elysian Empire were carefully curated by expert chefs and nutritionists to create the best soldiers on the Continent. For most of the time, the meals tasted mediocre at best, but they certainly provided the nutrition and energy that an Elysian soldier needed to function as part of the Elysian war machine.

Breakfast:

Breakfast was of less importance as compared to other meals, providing only just enough energy to get a soldier going for the day.
  • One baked potato, flavored with salt and herbs (at least it’s not boiled)
  • One apple/one slice of melon
  • A glass of milk
  • A glass of water

Lunch:

Lunch was prioritized for ease of consumption, as most soldiers ate their lunches between training sessions on the spot (in peacetime) or right in the wilderness during long journeys or troop mobilization (in wartime).
  • One loaf of bread
  • Mixed vegetables and mushrooms (e.g. carrots, beetroots, brown mushrooms, red mushrooms)
  • Cheese made from cow’s milk, usually served alongside their bread
  • A cookie (the most anticipated part of lunch, but only given if there are no food shortages)

Dinner:

Considered their most important meal, it was usually served after a long day of training or fighting, making it much more plentiful as compared to the other meals.
  • A bowl of stew or soup made from a mix of vegetables and meat (could be anything, really; picky eaters don’t last long)
  • One loaf of bread/one slice of pumpkin pie
  • A mug of beer (or hot chocolate for those who don’t drink)
  • Any meat, shared between a table of a dozen or so men (a whole roast cow, or maybe three chickens to share)

Frozenhearts

The Frozenhearts designed their meals around one thing: warmth. Every meal is made to warm up the soldier and prevent them from freezing in the bitter cold of their territory. Not particularly delicious, but Frozenhearts are great hunters and scavengers, so Frozenheart soldiers are unlikely to starve.

Breakfast:

A warm start to the day, the stew or soup woke up the soldier enough for their duties. The cheese and the berries made the meal more bearable, though many opted to keep the berries as a snack for journeys.
  • A bowl of stew or soup, made from whatever edible substances available (if you can’t survive the Elysian meals, you certainly won’t survive this)
  • One loaf of bread
  • Cheese made from goat’s milk
  • A handful of sweet berries

Lunch:

A Frozenheart lunch certainly leaves much to be desired. Although it was designed with convenience in mind, it still required a fire to be set and the food to be warmed, since biting into cold bread or meat was not good for their teeth.
  • One loaf of bread
  • Cured meat or fish (Chewy and salty, best served with bread to tone down the flavor)
  • Dried herbs and vegetables (usually tasteless or bitter)

Dinner:

Dinner was also quite important to the Frozenhearts, and the stew or soup allowed soldiers to warm up after a long day, and the tasty dessert certainly boosted the morale of troops.
  • One loaf of bread
  • Any meat or fish, shared between a table of a dozen or so men (usually the best part, as it would be freshly prepared)
  • Another bowl of stew or soup, made from whatever edible substances available (usually better than breakfast; cooks kept the best foodstuffs for dinner)
  • Mashed potatoes (during summer) or pickled vegetables (during winter)
  • A bowl of shaved ice, flavored with goat’s milk, honey, sugar and sweet berries (probably the perfect end to a day)

Rakian Empire

Much like the Frozenhearts, the Rakian Empire doesn’t have much choice when it comes to food, so they tend to eat whatever comes their way, and save the rest for later. Surprisingly, Rakian cuisine is actually quite delicious, with flavorful stews and ingenious dishes that marvel many visitors.

Breakfast:

Built for simplicity and nutrition. Rakians treat all meals equally due to their climate, and prefer to eat barley bread with every meal.
  • One loaf of unleavened barley bread (the Rakians eat it day and night; it’s a surprise they haven’t grown tired of it)
  • A bowl of spiced meat stew (camel or rabbit, depending on which was available)
  • Cactus meat (99% of spines removed, we can’t vouch for the remaining 1%)

Lunch:

Lunch, much like the other nations, are centered around portability, but most importantly, hydration, so camel milk is usually consumed alongside their food.
  • One loaf of unleavened barley bread
  • Cactus meat
  • A glass of camel milk
  • Nut and desert berries mixture (sometimes, extra will be given on uncertain journeys so that troops can still eat even if camp can not be set up)

Dinner:

During evening times, when the air is cool but not cold, Rakian soldiers will usually sit around fires instead of tables to eat their food. Hydration is still important, so both tea and beer will be given.
  • One loaf of unleavened barley bread
  • One slice of pumpkin pie
  • A bowl of spiced meat stew
  • Mixed vegetables and herbs (usually dried)
  • A mug of tea
  • A mug of beer

Burning Banner

The Burning Banner probably has it worst: the Nether yields little food source, so they have to get creative. Like really creative. In times of war and unrest, Piglins may sometimes kill their own steeds, Hoglins, for food. It’s a wonder they survived this long, which could be helped by the fact that a huge part of their army, Wither Skeletons and Soul Skeletons require no food, being Undead creatures.

Breakfast:

Simple, quick, straight to the point. What more can you ask? For the troops, food was food, as long as it filled their stomach.
  • A bowl of Nether fungi stew, one refill available (made from whatever edible fungi they can get, which is usually nether wart)
  • A glass of awkward potion (Um…uhhh…well, this is awkward)

Lunch:

They just had to make do. Despite decades of research, the Burning Banner was just unable to find a stable food source until the introduction of human foodstuff, where they finally found ways to cultivate more food for their troops.
  • Very diverse; depends on whatever rations the Burning Banner can scrap together
  • Sometimes, troops may just forage or hunt for any food they can get; it’s a lucky thing that Wither Skeletons don’t have to bother with that

Dinner:

Considered better than breakfast and lunch, it was still a step away from the meals of the Overworld nations. Oh, those poor Ghasts.
  • Another bowl of Nether fungi stew, one refill available
  • Hoglin, roasted over lava for added flavor
  • A glass of awkward potion
  • Ghast roast (Only in the worst times; Ghasts aren’t sentient beings, but they’re still powerful as either carriers or airborne cannons)

  Have something to say?
