The Old Man
Read Part One First.... Done? Okay!
That night I couldn't sleep. I thought back to the shop, where a mysterious man had been waiting for me. He told me about a plan, a plan to take Flandre Dagoba's most prized possession, and I had no choice but to help him acquire it. The mysterious man was going to blow up my house if I didn't comply to his demands. The plan was fool proof, but it was out of the question. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, I decided, right there in my bed, that I would take matters into my own hands. Foolishly the man had given me the sword back. He had said: "In the coming days, you'll need this sword. Just make sure you don't lose it again!" I wasn't planning on it.
I crept downstairs, being careful not to wake up Oscar. He was sleeping on the rug, probably dreaming of running free through the forest, chasing sheep and such. For a second, I contemplated taking him with me, but I quickly shunning the very idea away. Where I was going, he wouldn't be safe. I needed to go alone.
The man had been careless. Though he was very mysterious in his identity (his face was covered during our first exchange) he had let slip a small detail when he made his parting remark. "Don't do anything rash. I'll be watching. I've eyes in high places." The only lookout spot for days was the Old Road Watchtower. If he was to be spying on me, that's where he'd do it. "This guy may be smart," I said, "but I beat him at his own game."
I snuck out the back, careful to avoid detection. Since I knew where he was stationed, I could avoid the spots he'd be able to see me more easily. I tip-toed down the road, being very quiet, when all of a sudden... "Hey there you young whippersnapper, where you off to?" It was the old man.
Nobody knew how old the old man actually was, but we all knew he was the oldest guy around. He probably rode the dinosaurs, and remembered the Indev Days. He wasn't very grandiloquent, but he had a certain charm that made him liked by most people. I would have been happy to chat with him if at this point in time I wasn't busy hiding from an evil madman. "Sorry, can't talk, bye!"
"Hold up! You kids have so much spunk these days... back when I was a kid, we'd respect our elders. I just wanted to ask where you were going! A fellow asked me to pass on a message is all."
"Wait.. what fellow? What message?" I had a bad feeling about this.
"I didn't see his face, but the message was for you to meet him at the Old Road Watchtower. I was wondering if that was were you were off to now!" This was the worst thing I could possibly hear. It was as if the whole plant has suddenly fell out of orbit, and everything was sailing into the sun. I ran. I ran straight for the Old Road Watchtower.
When I got there, the mysterious man was standing right outside the tower, with his face covered as usual. "You asymptote! I told you to stay put. You are an quite disobedient. Why, you somehow manage to be more annoying than tmesis. I guess I'll have to deal with you sooner rather than later..."
