Now I'm sure you're familiar with modpacks? You've proboably heard of YogBox, the NOW pack, the Amazo pack, etc etc. What makes these modpacks special? Well, they followed a set of rules. I am going to share these rules with you here but first you must remember, not following these rules can very well break copyrights, a large majority have copyright footnotes at the bottom of their posts such as:

"This document is Copyright ©() of (hereafter referred to as "The Owner") and is the intellectual property of The Owner. Only Minecraftforum.net and mcmodcenter.net is able to host any of The Owner's material without the consent of The Owner. It may not be placed on any other web site or otherwise distributed publicly without advance written permission. (Electronic mail is acceptable as long as you wait for a response.) If you mirror this mod page or anything The Owner has made on any other site, The Owner may seek compensation for the damages through a lawsuit."

A modpack is a compilation (collection) of multiple mods that can work together without many if any conflicts.

The purpose of a modpack is to put a large collection of mods in a single download to save you time and effort.

That's why you're here isn't it? Just keep reading!

This really explains its self. Find a few mods that you like and think go together nicely

TIP: Make sure the mods are modloader required (DON'T ACTUALLY ADD MODLOADER TO YOUR PACK!! (unless you have permission))

Download all of the mods and install them. Open up minecraft.

If you get a black screen:

Close minecraft and open your .minecraft folder. There should be a text file called ModLoader.txt, Open it.

Scroll down to the part where it has the errors. Chances are two or more of the mods are conflicting. Generally it's an item/block id confliction. It will tell you which mods are conflicting, remove one from your pack.

If you really wanted to you could use MCP and decompile the mods and fix the id conflictions (this would allow your modpack to hold more mods) But make sure you have permission to alter to files.

If you don't get a black screen:

Now that everything is working properly with each other, you need to zip the files together. Before you do that you need to make sure you've done a few things.

DOWNLOAD WINRAR OR WINACE OR 7ZIP OR A VARIATION OF!

- Create a new folder called something like "Super awesome modpack of doom" (no don't use that because you would be stealing from me :P )

- Pretend that the "Super awesome modpack of doom" folder is minecraft.jar and move all of the files into it like you would install a mod into the jar file

-Select all of the files (ctrl + A on windows) and rightclick one of them, and click "add to archive..."

-Name it what you named your folder if it isn't already named that, select zip file and click ok.

I can not stress this enough. You do NOT have any right WHATSOEVER to distribute a mod without the original authors permission! Unless they state otherwise in their forum post, it would say something like:

"Feel free to use my mods in a modpack but please be sure to give me credit! :D"

Or other variations thereof.

Once you HAVE permission you NEED NEEEED to give the authors credit! There are several ways to go about this:

- Create a .txt file in the download that has each mod next to the author

- In the forum post CLEARLY state which mod belongs to who in a list (like this)

- Put the list in a visable location!

Just giving credit or SAYING that you have permission is NOT enough. You should ALWAYS provide PROOF that you have permission. There are a couple ways to do this as well.

- Screenshot the conversation(s)

- Provide a link to a forum post where the author gave permission

- Upload Super awesome modpack of doom.zip to a website like mediafire or dropbox

- Get the public link for the download

- DO NOT USE ADF.LY These are NOT your mods to be making money off of, only the authors are allowed to use adf.ly

- Put the link on your forum post

MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THESE STEPS, ESPECIALLY THE ONES ABOUT GETTING PERMISSION!!!
