Alright, so since this is a balloon story, absolutely NO balloons...
A young girl aged about 11 with a good reputation for manners skipped into a lolly shop. "Good morning, Hikaru!" she exclaimed to the man at the front counter. "Oh, morning Nagisa, what'll it be today?" The little girl grinned. "Oh, I'm not here for me today!" she gestured to a kitten on the sidewalk, "I'm here for Aku!" Hikaru smiled. Nagisa didn't like to have other people think she was selfish, but sometimes she came up with the most ridiculous excuses. "Nagisa, how do you know Aku wants these sweets and not some nice fish?" The kitten outside was looking impatient. "He told me so!" At this, Hikaru's smile faded a bit. Tales of creatures, particularly cats, possessed by kami were not uncommon in those parts. He feared for the girl's safety as though she were his daughter, and he felt like a father too as the girl had never known hers. He turned his back to Nagisa to bag the lollies that had been ordered. "Maybe you should stay away from that cat..." Was he imagining it or was the kitten outside hissing? Nagisa shifted uncomfortably. "He's my new kitten. I won't leave Aku alone." She paid and walked out of the store with a reasonably sized bag of lollies.
Nagisa walked down the street with the normal looking kitten named Aku. "It's not fair, is it?" she asked the cat without looking down at it, only to the side. The cat stood up and changed it's form to a sinister creature with duel tails. "No, it isn't...." The cat hissed. Nagisa looked at Aku, "Why does everybody accuse you of terrible things? You're a good kitten!" Aku's ears twitched:
"... What kind of things?" Nagisa paused, before replying, "They're saying you're possessed, that you're nothing but a cold blooded killer, and that I'm a terrible child for accepting you." She grabbed Aku's hand/paw/thing. "But you're not. I know that." Nagisa purred. "There, see, you're starting to become more catlike!" exclaimed Aku, to the giggling of Nagisa, but the smile quickly faded. "Nagisa... Don't worry, they're wrong. I'll protect you from people like them." Nagisa nodded. "People like them... Shouldn't say those things." She squeezed Aku's hand/paw/thing tighter.
Finally, they stopped walking just short of a gold-coloured house with an orange roof. "What's wrong?" Asked Aku, who had been quite surprised by the stop. "Do you not want to go home?" Nagisa shook her head quickly, and started to walk back. "H-hey, wait up!" shouted Aku, trying to keep up, one of his tails wrapping around Nagisa's wrist. "You can't just run away! What about your mother? Won't she be worried?" Nagisa shook her head and kept walking, unfortunately resulting in Aku practically being dragged along. Nagisa was a lot stronger than she looked, that was for sure. Aku's ears twitched in annoyance. Nagisa was nice, but she was extremely stubborn as well. All Aku could do was tag along...
Eventually he lost track of where he was going, and was walking half asleep behind Nagisa. He swore he would protect her from the people she loved, but that might be more difficult than he had ever imagined.
"Aku?" Nagisa asked, looking down at him as he opened his eyes. They appeared to be in some sort of hidden glade, overshadowed by many evergreen trees. Luckily they weren't the needle kind otherwise we would have to be very sorry for Aku at present. "Aku!" Nagisa shouted this time, startling Aku causing him to fully wake up. "Alright, alright, I'm up. What's the rush?" He sat up, rubbing his head. "Look what I found!" Nagisa jumped up and gestured to the area around them, and now that Aku was awake, it was beautiful. Butterflies fluttered through buttercup filled meadows with not a bee in sight and shrines lining the winding green pathway. All at once Aku knew this was no home of the cruel humans that had been so mean to his Nagisa, who was grinning from ear to ear. "I've found the kami home!" exclaimed Nagisa, excitedly. "T-the kami home? Home of the kami? Place where the kami reside? Kami villag-" Aku was obviously very scared, but Nagisa just laughed. "From now on, let's live at the shrine of the Kami of Fabulous Kittens, okay? Her name is... Nagisa!" Aku stared for about half a minute.
