I sat down at one of the bar chairs, looking up at Grillby, my ears pinned back. "What'll it be, Miss?" He asked calmy. "Root beer" I replied quietly. Grillby slid the glass cup to me once he was done, I nodded to him in thanks. I sipped some of it, then looked around me, I didn't come here often, let alone get out of my house. One person stood out, a skeleton, he sat on the chair next to me, drinking... ketchup? I gave him an odd look, who would do that? He looked at me. "Something wrong?" He asked me, I guess that's what I get for staring.. "No... It's just odd, why would you be drinking ketchup?" I said. "Well, It tastes good." He replied simply.
I just nodded slightly, turning away, I wasn't a very interactive person. I finished my drink, leaving money on the bar table for Grillby, and got up, walking out into the painful cold.
I went home, locking the door behind me once I got inside. I sighed in relief at the warmth of my cozy home. I turned on the TV, of course, nothing good played besides that stupid Mettaton show... I growled, sitting down on the couch to nap, seeing as I had nothing better to do. Sleep never came easily for me, and when it did, it came with nightmares. Why? I couldn't tell you, I guess it just worked out that way.
I woke up the next morning, sweating.. dangit, I had left my sweater on.. I took it off, leaving only my white T-shirt. I looked out the window, into the snow. White specks of snow drifted past my window, some melting on the glass, I sighed. I pulled out my phone, looking at the texts... I was suprised to see I had one.. only one person had my number.. Papyrus? He barely ever talked with me, mostly because I tried to ignore it...
It read: "Hey Paradox, I was wondering if you'd like to come over, because you know, nobody can say no to the great Papyrus!"
I laughed a bit, I had to admit, his personality was funny, he sure was determined to be my friend... I answered yes, I suppose it was nice to be social... not that it mattered really. I went to my closet, grabbing a thick black hoodie, pulling it over my ears. I grabbed the keys to my house, walking outside, and locking the door behind me, and out into the winter wonder-land...
It was a while to Pap's house, I shivered as snow flakes tickled my snout, I rubbed them off, pulling the hoodie over my face tighter. I was almost there... when something caught my eye, a person, out here? I stopped, looking over at the figure, it was small, maybe it was that monster kid...? No, it had arms. I tilted my head, then walked over, I normally wasn't social, but I'd never seen this person around. As I got closer, I noticed it was a kid... what was a kid doing alone out here. "Hey! Hey!" I called. The kid stopped, turning to me, it was a little girl... looked about five or so.. "Hey? Where are your parents?" * I asked, confused. The child didn't answer, just stared at me, I frowned. "Uhhh... Do you have a home? Are you lost or something?" The child shook her head, then started to walk away, I didn't bother going after them, they seemed to be going somewhere anyway...
I eventually got to Pap's house, I knocked on the door, he soon answered, a silly smile on his face. "Ah Paradox! I'm so happy you came!! Come in, come in." He said, stepping aside so I could come in. Once I got inside, I thanked him for the invitation. Then I saw that guy from Grillby's, the skeleton who was drinking ketchup, I wondered why he was here, then it clicked, He was Pap's brother, duh. I sat down on their couch, and the odd skeleton looked at me, walking over. "The name is Sans, you?" He held out his hand, I shook it hesitently. "Paradox..." I replied quietly.
Papyrus turned on the TV.... and of course, Mettaton was playing, I groaned inside, I hated this show.. I was lost in my own thoughts for a while, before Papy set down a bowl on my lap, it was spaghetti, it smelled awesome. "Wow... this looks good Papy, thanks.." I said, eating it happily. "Yeah bro, smells good." Said Sans, who had sat on the couch near me. We ate in silence, the only sound was coming from the TV. I finally looked at my phone, seeing the time. "Dangit... Sorry guys, I need to apply for a job today, Thanks for the food, Papy." I said, getting up quickly, and running outside before they could respond.
I looked for jobs all around Snowdin... and yay, lucky me, the only one open was Grillby's, normally, I would be fine with that, Grillby was nice... but there were so many people.. I grumbled, walking inside anyway. I went over to the bar table. "Hey Grillby... I saw there was a job opening, I was hoping I could you know... apply?" I asked, nervous. Grillby turned to me, his flames making the room glow. "That would be nice, I could use some extra hands... sorry, paws, around here." He said, smiling slightly. I nodded, he said I could start tomorrow, so, I went home.
I went to sleep, but as always, the nightmares came... I was in a dark room, the only place with light was a patch of dirt, where a bunch of yellow flowers grew, I walked over to it, and one of the flowers moved, turning it's... face to me? I jumped, this was... odd. "Hi! I'm Flowey! Flowey the flower!" It said in a cheery voice. "Huh, creative name, eh?" I asked, being sarcastic. "I wouldn't be so smug... You'll bring me that child, got it?" It said, it's voice no longer friendly, I backed away slowly.
"And why would I do that?" I asked, starting to get nervous. "Because you don't have a choice." It's frightening laughter filled my mind, I woke up with a jolt, panting... "What the heck..."
