Welcome Ladies and Gentleblocks to a short tutorial that I made on transmitting your redstone signal vertically with the use of top-side halfslabs and glowstone.

Using this method, you can transport your redstone current in a 2x1 area rendering it a very compact and efficient way of making it go up.

Your downwards is wrong too. You don't need a 2x2 you can do 2x1.

I will teach you.

This is an essential thing to redstoning, and I'm glad to see a popular PMCer make it just a littler more well known. Personally I use this everyday :)

There's a problem with this method: The signal can't go infinitely and you can't place a repeater there to make it longer. On the other hand this is probably the fastest vertical RS transmitting. With RS torches the signal can reach the height limit easily but it's slower... Well, it depends if we need it fast or really high :] Nice tutorial.

Thats a very good point. The extra repeater to extend the signal may add another block of width sadly but thats a sacrifice I'm willing to make! Thanks :)

Haha yeah, RS in MC is a matter of compromise... There's yet another way how to send RS signal upwards with using just the RS torches and no dust or repeaters. It's the slowest way but it's 2 wide as well and of course it can go infinitely.

Torches are placed on the sides of the blocks. Especially useful for powering pistons (piston doors etc.)
