Weekly Minecraft Rant: Week 1

Why is it that I have found more Diamond than I have Iron ore. I dig, and dig, and dig, through layer upon layer of cobble for Iron, and all I have to do for Diamond is hit bedrock and spread out from there. I usually only find 6 Iron, enough for a bucket and a pickaxe, and I only use the pick to get diamond. I have found enough diamond to make a full diamond tool set and a few enchanting tables. I would assume that Iron would be more common, but not only is it rarer, but there is no way to tell where it is. I think that Diamond is useful, but I cannot use diamond to make a bucket, which is arguably one of the most useful items in the game.
