I don't know why I'm making this, really.
But, with my experience in administration of servers, I suppose I did this to help out a few people who are having trouble getting a rank which they would like.
Now, my little guide here probably won't work on all servers, but for most it will.
First of all, I'm going to make sure this is very clear, do NOT be a suck-up. As an admin, I really dislike suck-ups and fanboys. All of the admins I have met are the same way. I personally like calling these people "Mini-Mods." Generally they're helpful, but only want to get a promotion for their personal glory. Generally these people can be identified by simple things such as whether or not they ask if they're getting a promotion, or are too eager to be put in a position of power.
My first tip is to be active.
Play on the server a lot, talk in chat a lot, and be helpful a lot. Answer questions when asked in chat, whether directed towards you or towards the server looking for an answer. Participate in events if the server has them, talk to the staff a lot, recommend plugins, etc. Be a good player to the server.
Next, is to be knowledgeable.
Know what you're talking about when you talk about it. Look things up on plugins, or the game itself, the lore behind the server if there is one, etc. Get a base of knowledge, and use that knowledge to help others, build cool stuff, do things for the server, whatever.
Finally, don't be a dipshit.
Try really hard not to break rules, try to spell correctly, and most importantly, be mature.
I have been playing this game for roughly 23.5 months now, and, while I may not be as experienced as most, I do have about 16 months of experience being a staff member on a server.
As an administrator on a decently sized server, this is what I look for in people eligible for promotions to a staff rank. Whether you take this information or not is your decision.
