When the Trees Started Watching

The first tree we cut didn’t feel like a crime.

It was just wood. Just progress. Just survival.

Dark oak burns longer. Dark oak looks stronger. Dark oak builds better ships, better mansions, better empires.

So we cut it.

And cut it.

And cut it again.

The forest never screamed. It never struck back. It never warned us.

It waited.

At first, the changes were small. A log slightly out of place. A shadow that lingered longer than it should. The Dark Oak Forest felt… heavier. Quieter.

Then the nights started creaking.

Not wind.

Not leaves.

Wood shifting where no player walked.

That’s when we first saw the Creaking.

It didn’t charge. It didn’t roar. It stood at the edge of the trees like it belonged there more than we ever did.

It only moved when we looked away.

It only stepped forward when the sun fell.

And that’s when it made sense.

The forest wasn’t spawning monsters.

It was rebuilding itself.

From stripped logs.

From abandoned planks.

From the beams of ships and the frames of woodland mansions.

Every structure we left behind was a seed.

Every scar in the bark was a memory.

And during the day?

The Creaking isn’t gone.

It’s still.

Rooted.

Blending back into trunks and branches, waiting for night to return what daylight interrupts.

The forest does not rage.

It corrects.

And if you listen closely, when the wind dies and your torches flicker low, you can hear it deciding whether your build belongs there at all.
