Why I quit.

A lot of people are asking why I quit being a chat mod, and since I don't feel like explaining each time, or giving the whole story out each time, I wrote this.

Firstly, there were just too many people breaking the rules, all the time. I am in chat for most of my free time, so about 6-8 hours a day. And to spend all my free time, babysitting a bunch of rebels, was no fun, to say the least.

Secondly, I was always just watching. The mood rarely felt the same. I had to be on alert and watch each message roll by. And, when I'm in chat, I like to just have another window up with chat behind it, so I can pop in when I want to. So having to come in each time someone broke a rule was another hassle.

Most importantly, everyone was just expecting me to be more than I was before. I couldn't just change who I was, just because I was a moderator. It seemed like people wanted me to stop having fun. Even my jokes were starting to be targeted. Long story short, I hate things being expected from me that I can't provide, and I won't go into detail about that.

But, the moment I knew I wanted to quit, is when, late at night, I was trying to fall asleep, and I thought of that black name. A large smile came across my face. A smile I hadn't known for a while now. All at once the expectations, the responsibility, the stress, all went away. And I had a smile. I knew I had to quit soon that night, and I waited 3 more days before I did. But each of those days the pressure seemed to get worse and worse. So I quit.

I smiled, there was laughter, I could play, and enjoy myself, and not have to deal with some problem or rule breaker once or twice every 10 min. To be honest, I never wanted to be a moderator, and (Certain people) seems to miss my power more than I. But now I'm smiling.

You should be proud of yourself monkey. You did what you wanted and not what others wanted. Im sure we will all miss you as a mod but I understand why you " quit" and your happy with your decision so i respect that, and i respect you for doing what you want. :D Enjoy being " normal" lol

nice work, a lot of people dream of being a moderator on pmc simply for the status and bragging rights, they don't understand how much work goes into moderating a site like this, especially with a lot of members being of a certain age.

I agreed, most people do not know what being a moderator like. In this server I am moderator there and it's just a lots of works. Being a admin is worst on that server, as you have to fix the server if something when wrong. Along with players shouting at you, "Fix it!, Fix it!"

Good blog. Hopefully some people will read this and realise that moderating is a lot of work and responsibility. Moderating is not a status symbol, and it's not fun. I think you highlighted that pretty well.

I agree with you and Soul, I've moderated a forum for a server. The problem was for some reason we got strange amounts of spam bots making posts, so as a mod it was my job to delete all of the spam posts.

Most people (and by people I mean children who haven't had a position as a moderator) think being a moderator gives you instant respect in an online community. While it can do this it also comes with great power and responsibility. Oh and don't forget having to deal with the retarded group of mongrels that dwell on every forum site ever.

If you want to become a mod, be prepared for a large work load.

There was an old Chinese story:
A man loved dragons, he would have paintings of dragons, dragon toys, dragon carvings, and such everywhere around his house. One day, a real dragon visited him and he was terrified.

Lesson was, be careful for what you wish for. Some people want Moderator so bad... Not really worth the trouble. I used to own a server that I setup everyday... very annoying and not worth the trouble.

I know it's supposed to be a lesson for everyone, but if you read the last paragraph, you see that I never actually wanted to be a moderator in the first place.
