Added Content: A new type of item called Amulets, which go into your off-hand to gain bonuses. Along with an assortment of other items, including different elytra upgrades.

Cool! But I would recomend more showing the content of the datapack in the picture section, especially that one which is shown as te thumb. No one can do something with a wither rose and wither skulls in a 3x3 field, a diamond sword with a crossbow or a custom sword.
Also to the pack itself, You can give the item the player by summoning an item at his place. It will be automatically be picked up and if the inventory is full it'll fall down without disapearing. I think that would be a better way.
Also with Custom model Data and some desining skill you could give the amulets a texture. There are many videos to understand that. If you did that you can show one or more amulets in the thumbnail.

I've looked at a decent amount of videos on custom model data and I followed them exactly but I could not get it to work, and I'm also not sure what I was doing wrong.

well it depends on which video you watched, because the version is important. With the 1.19.3 Update a new folder with the block.json was added to make it easier. so look for such one. If you get a magenta-black 3d item there is a problem with the model, if it's 2d it's because it couldn't find the texture. If it keeps the same texture as the item has, it's because you don't have the texture pack on, the item you hold doesn't have custom model data or the custom model data is below the one you typed in the code. For example if link a texture if it has {CustomModelData:2} but that one you gave yourself with the command has Custom Model Data 1 it wont work, if it's above the number it would take the 2 texture.
