Armored Elytra is a simple yet powerful datapack that lets you combine any chestplate with an elytra using an anvil.
Just drop both items on top of an anvil and the chestplate will be absorbed, transferring its protection to the elytra.
You will end up with a fully functional elytra that keeps the armor value of the chestplate you used — giving you the freedom to fly without losing defense!
