Diamonds have grown very redundant, so I added a new use for them.
They're very expensive, being crafted like this:

but it's designed to help automate mining, bring a trapdoor and you can follow it through and pick up everything it mines for you.
It does take fall damage, if it falls a total of 20 blocks, it explodes.
It also explodes if it hits an unbreakable block like bedrock or end portal frames. (technically untested, but it probably works)
(Don't look too closely at the model, I'm not proud of it.)
