i don't know. magic?

1. villager with a book trade has his trades reprocessed
2. when current trade is a book trade it gets replaced using a loot_table with a list of random trades
3. the trade from loot_table gets processed into a villager trade format
4. after everything is clear to go the reprocessed trades are saved back to villager

As any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic you are not mistaken calling it either Technology or Magic
