    This is a data pack I made for use with Magex's Copper Armor resource pack. On its own this does not add copper armor to the game, it just adds crafting and smelting recipes to chainmail armor. When used together with the resource pack this allows you to have craftable copper armor in Minecraft versions prior to 1.21.9, when Mojang finally added copper armor to the base game. This is great for the early game when you don't have a lot of iron but copper is quite abundant.

      Assuming one did not load the "Magex's Copper Armor" pack, would loading this pack result in copper ingots crafting chainmail?

      (I don't yet know enough about various packs and how they interact to feel confident in that prediction…)

      Yes, that is correct. Magex's resource pack just changes the textures (and names) of chainmail armor, which is a great approach because it works without Optifine. This data pack only adds recipes for chainmail armor, so without the resource pack this lets you craft chainmail with copper ingots (and smelt them back into copper ingots).
