Degradation is a combination of Desire paths, Leaf decay, Dynamic cave-ins and Block weathering.
Desire paths are paths that form where you travel. Grass will degrade into dirt where you travel. Then from dirt into gravel, and then cobble.

Decreased desire path rate even further.
Put auto air update back here, it never made sense to put it in nucleus

Thats a hard one to answer, it's based on players travel. So every several blocks when walking. But every block you jump on.
